Can finance drive revenue growth and meet sustainability goals? Questions like these are currently at the forefront of many conversations. So, I was happy to discuss at today’s Handelsblatt #CFOSummit2024 how integrating sustainability into our corporate strategy impacts the finance function. Integrating sustainability metrics into performance measurements ensures that our strategic direction is aligned with long-term environmental, social, and economic objectives. But can digital health solutions deliver the expected relief? Patient-centric innovations hold the key: telemedicine, mHealth, eRecords, and ePrescriptions promise faster care, smarter diagnostics, and enhanced access, improving patient experiences along all stages of the patient journey. Yet, Germany lags behind in digital readiness, ranking second last (out of 17) at the Digital Health Index – despite large investments that are provided by the German government only for the digitalization of the healthcare system (e.g., €4.3 bn for the “KHZG”). Germany fell to 24th place in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking for 2024, a drop of two positions compared to the previous year and nine spots lower than two years ago. One contributing factor to this decline is attributed to the policies of the current traffic-light coalition government, as only 5% of respondents believe that effective governance is one of Germany's strengths. With new elections scheduled for February, Friedrich Merz is likely to become the next chancellor. This reinforces our perspective in Real Estate Investment & Development, where we observe a disparate development favoring the American market due to significantly stronger demand drivers. This trend aligns with our strategic focus and bolsters our growth prospects in the U.S. By the end of last year, the U.S. had fully recovered from the pandemic, while the Eurozone's GDP was 5% below trend, the UK was 6% behind, and Canada was 4% behind. Alarmingly, growth trends in Europe and Canada have weakened, suggesting these economies may never fully recover from the pandemic's impact. Here are the main points: U.S. Economic Outperformance: America has recovered from the pandemic faster than most industrial nations, including Germany. Key Difference: Higher productivity and longer working hours by American workers. Federal Reserve Study Insights: o  Traditional factors like government spending explain differences only partially. o  U.S. avoided deep recession due to a dynamic labor market, unlike Europe which used measures like short-time work to keep unemployment low initially. o  Europe's rigid employment policies hindered adaptation to new economic conditions. o  U.S. saw a surge in new business formations post-pandemic, while Europe lagged. Central Bank Policies: Although central banks in the U.S. and Europe raised interest rates nearly simultaneously since 2022, the impact varied. In the U.S., higher rates didn't affect many citizens and businesses due to fixed-rate mortgages and loans, and a lower reliance on bank credit. In contrast, Canadians and Europeans felt the impact more, yet this still doesn't fully explain the growth gap. Policy Impacts: The Ukraine war and slow EU funding approval impacted Europe more severely.

Berlin - Exponential growth in drug-related deaths in Europe The logistical routes for the transfer of cocaine from the production site in South America to Europe are managed in the same way as normal goods transport, with producers, banks, logisticians and managers. The management hot spot is in Albania, in Tirana. The autocrat Rama has ruled the country since 2013 and legitimises himself through falsified elections. Albania has the most corrupt executive in Europe, the hot spot of money laundering in Europe and, as the BILD and security circles report, a "Rama mafia government". Rama himself also appears to be involved in the Mc Gonigall/FBI corruption scandal, together with a Russian oligarch. The pro-Western opposition in Albania is suppressed or imprisoned. As in Russia, attempts are being made to delegitimise the opposition through falsified documents and accusations of corruption. Every now and then, as in Russia, people in the administration are put in a "shop window" because of corruption, to distract the international community. It is time to send "the cavalry" to Tirana, the games of the Rama administration should be ended.
