12 seconds that changed the world! What can you realistically achieve in 12 seconds? For the vast majority of people, the reasonable answer would be not very much at all. But on 17th December 1903, that was how long it took two very famous brothers to change the world. The brothers in question are Orville and Wilbur Wright, and it was on this day that for the first time their heavier-than-air, mechanically propelled airplane flew for 12 seconds. It was enough time to show them that their hard work and inspiration had paid off. They could not have known at the time just how much their initiative and inventiveness would change the nature of transportation and travel and the impacts that would have on economies around the globe. So let Wright Brother’s Day inspire you! We at thyssenkrupp Aerospace and so many others in the #aviation and #aerospace #industry owe so much to them.

An industry that keeps the world moving: in December 1996, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ✈️, a specialist organization within the United Nations, established December 7 as the day to celebrate the impact that civil aviation has had on the world. Or in the words of the ICAO itself, #InternationalCivilAviationDay is commemorated to “help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States and of the unique role of ICAO in helping States to cooperate and realize a truly global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind.” Of course, there are environmental consequences that accompany the considerable social and economic benefits of civil aviation. But airlines around the world are working hard to counteract this by investing in new technologies so that the industry becomes significantly more sustainable than it was in the past. With our expertise in digital #supplychainmanagment and a variety of services that support companies in their #sustainability journey, thyssenkrupp Aerospace aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the aviation sector. Take a look below how civil aviation has changed throughout the years. 👇

The modern-day American national holiday of Thanksgiving is generally thought to be modelled on a harvest feast in 1621 by Pilgrims from England and a group of Wampanoag people. During this feast to say thanks 🙏🏾 for the bountiful harvest, the two groups are said to have dined on venison, fish and shellfish, as well as corn and other vegetables. Despite the large population of wild turkeys 🦃 in the area at the time, there is no indication that the bird was part of the meal, and neither was the other staple associated with modern Thanksgiving, pumpkin pie 🥧. For many people in America, today’s celebrations are about fun, football 🏈, family and feasting where turkey and pumpkin pie are most definitely on the menu. In fact, in 2023 it was estimated that 293.3 million Americans - that’s 88% of the population - feasted on 46 million turkeys at a total cost of US$1.28bn. They also consumed around 50 million pumpkin pies! We would like to wish all our American colleagues, business partners, friends and all other who celebrate this monumental day a very: #HappyThanksgiving2024 #thanksgiving #holiday
