Successful Completion of Moldova’s Border Security Enhancement Project 🇲🇩 In December 2024, we celebrated the successful completion of a groundbreaking project to strengthen Moldova’s border security. What began in February 2023 as a collaborative effort between the Moldovan Border Police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the German Federal Foreign Office has now transformed Moldova’s ability to monitor its borders. Why does this matter? Moldova shares a long and challenging border with Ukraine, as well as a border with Romania. This strategic location has made border security a top priority. With the rise of cross-border crime and the increasing use of drones by criminal actors, the need for advanced surveillance has never been greater. This project created an Aerial Monitoring Unit (AMU), bringing together cutting-edge UAV technology (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), satellite imagery, and anti-drone measures. The result? A modernized approach to border control that’s more efficient, effective, and ready to tackle the evolving challenges at Moldova’s borders. But it’s not just about technology. It’s about people. Extensive training for Moldovan officers ensures that they are equipped not only to operate these technologies but to handle the data securely. This collaboration shows the power of international partnerships in creating lasting security solutions. By enhancing Moldova’s border surveillance, we’re not only protecting the country but contributing to the stability of the entire region. 🎯

Strengthening Gender-Responsive Policing: Train-the-Trainer Seminar in Abuja The journey towards more inclusive and gender-sensitive policing is underway in Abuja. In collaboration with the GS-Foundation and the CID Gender Unit, the Train-the-Trainer seminar for Gender Desk Officers has officially begun. This program aims to address staffing gaps by training officers to become trainers themselves, ensuring that knowledge on gender-responsive policing is passed on to the next generation of investigators. The content of the seminar was developed by experts, including Dr. DCP Rita Oki Emesim, Head of the Gender Unit, Ms. SP Yetunde Onanuga, a established investigator and trainer, and Peter Heepen, Project Coordinator (GS-F) and retired detective of police. In this course, participants will focus on important topics such as preventing sex and gender-based violence (SGBV) against women and girls, handling cases of SGBV within police work, and developing sensitivity towards these issues. The seminar began with around 20 participants (both male and female) from various departments of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). These participants were typically already responsible for gender equality within their respective departments. Earlier this year, the CID Gender Lab was equipped with advanced technology, providing the ideal setting for this important training. This initiative is a vital step forward in creating a sustainable and inclusive law enforcement framework in Abuja.
