Wrapping Up the Year in Style! As Boreal Light GmbH approachs the end of the year, we’re putting the finishing touches on four containerized solar water desalination systems with capacities of 6,000 liters/hour, 8,000 liters/hour, and two at 10,000 liters/hour. These systems are now ready for dispatch to Somaliland! Containerized solar water desalination systems provide peace of mind to installation teams. Fully equipped, piped, and cabled, they are designed to be operational within hours of arriving on-site. From delivery to producing safe, clean water, the process is seamless and remarkably quick. Last week, our team participated in the 7th German 🇩🇪 - 🇺🇦 Ukrainian Economic Forum in Berlin, centered on the theme of resilience and collaboration. The forum, organized by DIHK, AHK Ukraine - German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and the Ost-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft, brought together key stakeholders from both nations. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal opened the event, setting an inspiring tone for the day. At Boreal Light GmbH, we were honored to join a Meet & Greet with BMZ Minister Svenja Schulze, where we shared the successful outcomes of our solar water desalination project in Mykolaiv and our vision for the future. This project was implemented under the #develoPPP program, co-financed by KfW DEG with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Reflections on My Keynote at COP16 Riyadh This week at COP16Riyadh of UN Convention to Combat Desertification; Business4Land forum I had the opportunity to speak about a challenge that is both urgent and deeply personal to many coastal communities: saltwater intrusion into boreholes. This growing crisis is turning fertile lands into barren spaces and forcing people to abandon their homes, becoming what is known as Water Refugees. In my session, I highlighted how the deterioration of water quality directly impacts land fertility and livelihoods. The connection is undeniable—when water fails, the land it nourishes follows. This is not just an environmental issue but a human crisis that requires immediate, practical solutions. One of the points I stressed was the importance of local, sustainable approaches. Coastal communities cannot wait for global solutions; they need tools that empower them to adapt now. Technologies that protect water quality and improve land resilience are critical, alongside policies that support affected populations in maintaining their livelihoods. The feedback and conversations after my session were inspiring and reinforced the urgency of the issue. Saltwater intrusion is more than a climate challenge—it’s a call to action to protect the bond between land and water, and, ultimately, the communities that depend on them. I’m returning from COP16 more determined than ever to work on solutions that are innovative, practical, and immediately impactful. Let’s continue this conversation and push forward together. FROM BERLIN WITH LOVE! The dispatch day is always fun and tough! We have just said bye to a containerized solar water desalination system, heading to Mexico! The machine is fully set, piped, cabled and positioned in a 40f container. From the moment of arrival at the site, that takes nothing more than half a day untill the system is fully operational! Hopefully we will warp up 2024 with installation of this machine in Veracruz, south east Mexico.
