Project Engineer – Automation (Systems Software) (Multiple Openings)
Responsibilities:
The Project Engineer — Automation (Systems Software) is required to possess, understand, and apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of power system automation and related company products (involving software, integration and automation, industrial controls, programmable logic controllers or “PLCs,” human-machine interfaces or “HMIs,” relevant industry protocols—such as IEC-61850, DNP, and Modbus—Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry supervisory control and data acquisition or “SCADA” practices).
The incumbent will be expected to apply the principles of electrical engineering and computer science to: (1) train and assist customers with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of a range of computer and network software programs, solutions, and tools that support electrical power automation systems (including, but not limited to, real time automation controllers such as the SEL-3555 and SEL-3560, as well as server-class SCADA system computing platforms, such as the SEL-3355, SEL-3360, SEL-3350); (2) complete and implement assigned work within agreed-upon scope, schedule, and budget to a high level of quality and safety; (3) participate in the preparation of functional design specifications for electrical power automation system computer and network software programs, solutions, and tools, while working with other engineers to integrate related hardware and software systems; (4) prepare and maintain detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables; (5) provide computer systems software engineering support for other company marketing, sales, application engineering, and development activities; and (6) continuously identify, measure, and improve systems software engineering processes.
TRAVEL:
These full-time positions will be based out of SEL-ES’s Charlotte, North Carolina field office.
However, because the company has numerous customers nationwide, some travel is required, as the incumbent will occasionally and on a short-term basis be deployed to various customer sites.
Candidates must therefore be willing to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis.
