*FEA Engineer*
*Scope of Work *
MSI Defense Solutions is actively seeking an FEA Engineer, with preferred experience in the automotive field to join a dynamic and growing engineering team at our facilities located in Mooresville, NC.
As a member of the Engineering Team, the selected candidate will perform complex technical analysis, including numerical model development, failure analysis, structural integrity analysis, damage analysis, data reduction, data plotting, and data visualization.
While reporting to the Chief Design Engineer, the selected candidate will work with Project Managers and Senior Design Engineers to execute project design requirements to produce the best possible solution for the customer.
*Position Responsibilities:* * Collaborate with design engineers to provide analytical support on multiple projects simultaneously.
* Estimate time required to perform analytical studies, including guiding scope definition of studies.
* Compile results into presentations and reports to create summaries and recommendations for non-analysts.
* Plans and organizes structural analysis work at the program level to assure total compliance with structural integrity and stability requirements.
* Develops, integrates and documents complex or unique structural requirements to establish the system design.
* Guides product design and verifies structural integrity by defining requirements for development of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools to develop the structural environment, characteristics, and performance of the product.
* Works with customers and regulatory agencies to define certification processes that will ensure requirements are met.
* Reviews and approves certification results.
* Develops test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
* Defines and organizes test programs to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied.
* Develops analytical processes/tools to improve effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of the development effort.
* Provide Structural support to military or commercial engine components through all product development phases.
* Perform state-of-the-art ANSYS finite element analysis for stress, vibration, mission low cycle fatigue life, residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction, and optimization; stress testing and data reduction; production and in-service field investigations.
* Leads multi-disciplined integrated product teams as the structural subject matter expert, providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost, and weight.
*Skills and Experience* * Experience validating or verifying finite element model results.
* Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis, ANSYS Mechanical preferred.
* Experience with static structural analysis, vibration and modal analysis, and non-linear metallic material models.
* Proficiency in 3D mechanical design, Creo 7.
0 and Windchill 12 preferred.
* Scripting/Data analysis (Python, MATLAB, etc.
) * Ability to present analytical results & recommendations to non-FEA users.
* Strong written, verbal communications and presentation skills.
* Able to independently construct, execute, review, and manage structural finite element models.
*Qualifications* * Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of proven experience; or * 3+ years of proven experience in Finite Element Modeling and structural analysis of automotive structures.
* Prior experience in formal engineering reporting and documentation systems and experience with education and training in positions directly related to finite element stress analysis.
* Proficient in classical structural analysis and finite element methods.
*\*\*This position may require a government security clearance which requires US Citizenship.
\*\** Requires a full-time work week spent in the engineering office/MSI facilities.
Normal hours are Monday through Thursday 7am-4:30pm, and Friday 7am-12pm.
