Each year Board Directors from across Switzerland gather to discuss the most important topics. This year Board Effectiveness was in the spotlight and the Mercuri UrvalBoard and CEO Practice team ran workshops on how to evaluate and improve Board performance. The Handelsblatt Research Institute has once again identified Germany's top personnel consultants, and MU is keeping its place as one of the top 40 recruitment consultancies. In collaboration with The IQ Company, The Handelsblatt Research Institute has identified the 40 leading HR consulting companies of 2024. They used the reviews of over 20,500 employees from 2,800 companies as well as the opinions of around 48,000 managers and human resources managers. Whilst doing the review, Handelsblatt also took the opportunity to do a study to look at the biggest challenges that recruiters currently face. The need for AI experts is reflected in the study, where AI and robotics have significantly risen in importance among industry topics. The study also identifies digitalisation and sustainability as top priorities for HR consultants in Germany, reflecting the country's need for managers capable of driving structural change. Salary Guide 2024 – Debt Capital Markets DACH After a lower issue volume in 2022, 2023 and 2024 saw a return to growth in the market, particularly for sustainable bonds. The reasons for this are an increasing awareness of environmental, social, and governance factors. Corporates and institutions are issuing these bonds to finance projects with a positive environmental or social impact. In addition, the issuances show a more mature product, with more innovative and complex structures. These include hybrid and convertible sustainability-linked bonds, issuances involving multiple KPIs, and target dates. This trend will have a positive impact on the demand for qualified professionals and the development of salaries in the DCM sector.

GERMAN JOB OPENINGS - SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN Q2 2024 Just a brief pause or a mid-term trend reversal? The second quarter of 2024 shows a significant decline in job postings across nearly all industries, especially in HR and IT. It seems that the political uncertainty is now impacting the labor market. Many companies are hesitant to hire new employees and are cutting costs. However, the long-term trend of a skilled labor shortage is unlikely to change, given the clear demographic data. A short-term pause in the labor market wouldn’t be surprising given the ongoing uncertainty among German companies. Only with clear signs of economic recovery will hiring activity likely pick up again. For small and medium-sized enterprises, this situation presents strategic opportunities. Companies that act anti-cyclically can now attract talent to fill key roles in the short to medium term. This upward trend is evident across different industries, indicating a positive shift in the job market. The overall index and all of the individual skills show as higher than the same quarter in the previous year. This suggests that the job market is becoming less dependent on economic cycles and more resilient. While we cannot definitively say that the fear of recession is entirely behind us, these positive signs bode well for the Austrian economy’s recovery. The Skills Shortage Crisis in Switzerland: A Deepening Challenge… In the next few posts I will shed some light on Switzerland’s skills shortage crisis and my personal point of view on how companies should adapt their talent attraction strategies. I will always include a question in the end to get your point of view on the topic ✍ Here’s the situation in a nutshell; 👩‍🔬 100,000 job vacancies at any given time; Software Engineers, Sales, Healthcare Professionals etc. 📈 This number is projected to reach half a million by 2030 🛑 The shortage has worsened sharply, increasing by 24% in 2023 after a 69% surge in 2022 It is driven by a declining number of job seekers (more about this later) and steadily rising open positions. This skills short market is impacting the competitiveness of our economy which is underpinning our wealth.
