In these situations, maintaining equanimity allows us to remain open, flexible, and adaptive, guiding the group smoothly toward the desired outcomes. While careful planning is essential, the ability to stay calm and adjust to what emerges in the moment is just as critical. Whether it’s through focused breathing, grounding oneself, or mindful inner dialogue, cultivating equanimity helps us to stay present and responsive to the needs of the group. In 2019 Dr Jen Frahm wrote a foreword for Lena Ross ‘s brilliant book - Change Management - The Essentials. If you don’t have it, you won’t have seen it… "Earlier this year, I formalized my collaborations with Lena to create a new company, the Agile Change Leadership Institute. By the time you finish reading this book you will understand why. The decision to do so was a no brainer - she is generous, creative and so focused on delivering value. And those three hallmarks of Lena’s working style shine through in this book. This book is such an important contribution to the change community (and to be fair, the business sector in general). Despite every new management fad and framework hitting our desks, the need to support people through change remains enduring. It doesn’t go away with design thinking, it doesn’t go away with new neuroleadership approaches, it doesn’t go away with agile ways of working. Some might argue it gets harder …. and so, the value of a book like this increases. Clear, pragmatic, helpful and abundant with tips of lived experience. And whether it’s the financial lure of the how change practitioners are compensated, or whether it is a core calling to make life better for humans at work, more and more people are coming into the industry seeking to be effective at introducing and supporting others through change. And to my knowledge up to this point, there is NO all-encompassing agnostic handbook that helps you as some-one new to the industry. So, the value of this book is immense. For those who are well established, let me tell you as an experienced practitioner, I had a few wake-up calls in this book, and reminders on things I had let lapse in some initiatives. Don’t kid yourself its only for the newbies. It’s the type of book you keep close to hand and pick up, check a chapter, put it back, revisit when your change life gets gnarly again.
