Kudos to Air Canada. Not only do they disclose their numbers but also talk very openly about NDC. And it is time that we talk openly. NDC was and is the counter strategy by traditional airlines to meet the competition from LCCs and to sell in the same way to agents that they do on their website. They need their own API and capabilities to do just that. Those airlines who are hosted on IT systems that are also GDS providers have commercial constraints regarding content. This is the only reason for content issues. I admire AC especially for talking about this piece for IROPS. Private Aviation as an Essential Business Tool: A Four Part Series In today's fast-paced business world, time is a precious commodity. Discover how private aviation can elevate your business and win-rate. In my four-part LinkedIn series, we'll explore the benefits of using private aviation options for corporate travel, from increased efficiency and productivity, to enhanced security and privacy. Part 1: A Widespread Use of the Aircraft QUICK MESSAGE - Not just for the corporate heavyweights anymore. I think the most surprising fact to non-users of Private aviation is that most flights for business purposes aren't for, or related to, the C-Suite. Over 55%, in fact, according to the National Business Aviation Association. We have many clients who opt for a private aviation solution for their potential clients, sales managers, tech-reps, and legal teams. While the C-Suite certainly gets its share of use of private jet charters, it's the more widespread utilization for mid-level and specialized employees by a variety of business that really highlights the effectiveness of streamlined travel inherent to private air options.   One of our valued customers, a mid-cap company with headquarters in NYC, uses a private jet roughly twice per month to bring a potential client and the client's engineering team to their manufacturing facility in Eastern PA, where the sales team has full scale mockups and experts on hand. A sales executive will often fly out to the client via commercial air travel then accompany the clients aboard the charter flight to get a jump on presentations and questions that may arise during the site visit. After a full-day with on-site sales managers and tech-reps everyone reboards the jet for the trip home - making it a one-day sales evolution instead of asking potential clients to sacrifice 2-3 productivity days to visit their facility. Remember, as with all business tools, HOW you use private aviation determines its effectiveness and return on investment.

TA2 provides for: * Immediate 15.5% increase without any shifting of monies from the WestJet Savings Plan (WSP) * Out year pay increases of 3.25%, 2.5%, 2.5%, 2.5% over the 5-year term * Overtime beyond eight hours within a pay period within a pay period paid at a 1.75 X rate WestJet’s final concessions were obtained due to three principal factors: * the CIRB’s decision to uphold our right to strike * your exemplary discipline in implementing that strike, and * the Union’s commitment to direct all employees back to work immediately now that TA2 has been signed We request that you return to work forthwith so that we can provide the value of your labour that was the primary element in achieving this deal. As before, a majority of members in good standing must vote to ratify TA2 in order for it to become a final collective agreement. You will be able to vote when we have completed the virtual roadshow meetings to explain the terms of TA2, as well as the legal and political path we travelled to get there. Ratification will render unnecessary the compulsory arbitration on a first collective agreement as ordered by the Labour Minister. A move to match the new 'orthodox' or a panic move to increase revenue at the cost of profit? Spirit Airlines has now joined Frontier Airlines in eliminating change fees. The major airlines made the same move a few years back - HOWEVER - not for the lowest fee tickets. Sooooo.... an orthodox move to match other low cost airlines, but a potential advantage over the majors. Will it draw customers back from those airlines is just one question. The second is the impact on the bottom line. The airline industry is a very strange one where variable costs are minor compared to the fixed costs of a flight. International Air Transport Association (IATA) is disappointed in the decision taken by the Supreme Court of Canada on the Air Passenger Protection Regulations. A coalition of various representatives from the aviation industry had brought the proceedings with the aim of upholding the liability provisions of the Montreal Convention on the international carriage of passengers by air, a treaty to which Canada is party. Protecting the interests of passengers is best achieved through a safe, efficient journey where disruptions are minimized. While airlines play a critical role in this, the federal government also needs to focus its efforts on improving the overall air travel system, especially in the parts of the value chain which are directly under its control. The industry has called for “joint accountability” on numerous occasions but this has gone on deaf ears with the government. Air transportation should be treated as essential infrastructure, similar to rail, energy, and communications. To foster a healthy aviation industry that boosts GDP growth and increases Canada's connectivity while lowering fares for Canadians, we must address these policy framework issues in a transparent and collaborative manner. SOLUTION: Give Air Canada Pilots, represented by ALPA Canada, the best industry compensation and Air Canada gets from their pilots, the best industry productivity. Sounds easy, right? I’ve spent a career in aviation. Top pilot talent, jobs and pay in Canada were always at Air Canada and Canadian Pacific. My flight instructor Wayne Foster, and early pilot colleagues like Marty Rattee put the effort and time in to “make it” to the “big league”. I cut over to management, going for the brass ring in the CEO’s office. We all made it. In the words of Joni Mitchell, “I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now”. The industry continues to change. Automation and regulation have improved safety, and profitability — a positive change. And the enemy still remains — cost. There is no such thing as a low cost airline, all airlines must have a maniacal focus on cost containment or they’re out of business — fast. Paying for the best talent has a massive, positive effect on safe operations, recruitment, moral and yes, profit! And, it requires executive and management leadership (stewardship) to optimize assets, capital, equipment, and most importantly HUMAN CAPITAL, (your team). This also can be enhanced with automation, A.I. and more, yet always keeping in mind — this is a people business. Success is in sight for Air Canada (or any other airline) if they create a work environment where innovation and excellence are celebrated, cost is actively managed and contained, and their team satisfied they are being compensated well for delivering the best. Oh, one last thing, asking government for a solution — isn’t a solution. This is a positive move. Six years ago the Foreign Affairs Committee toured this facility and recommended increased defence investments in Inuvik as part of an Arctic sovereignty strategy. I believe the federal government should upload most infrastructure costs for the north - airfields, ports, etc - as part our NORAD and northern defence strategy. The govt is finally moving on acquiring submarines to show our allies that Canada will finally get serious on defence. This is positive. Canada needs a modern diesel sub with Air Independent Propulsion. We do not have the personnel, engineering capability, port facilities or money for nuclear and Australia will have trouble making it work.
