When Canada legalized cannabis, it was supposed to be the dawn of a new era—one of innovation, opportunity, and progress. But while there have been notable achievements, the journey has been fraught with setbacks that prevent the legal industry from fully realizing its potential such as: ➡️ High excise duties and complex provincial distribution systems make products more expensive and harder to access. ➡️ Restrictive limits on THC potency (especially for edibles) drive consumers toward cheaper, more potent products from the unregulated market. ➡️ Strict packaging and labeling regulations limit branding opportunities, preventing legal businesses from effectively competing with illegal operators. To level the playing field and support a thriving legal market, we need: ✅ Higher potency limits on edibles to match consumer demand. ✅ Lower excise taxes to make legal products more competitive with the black market. ✅ Smarter policies that allow for better branding, consumer education, and industry growth. Ninety percent of our communication is non-verbal, communicated through the eyes, voice, facial and bodily gestures. From the moment we are born we are communicating our internal cues to our caregivers and we need them to attune to those cues to ensure that we not only survive, but flourish. As developing humans, when we are not consistently cared for or appropriately responded to, when mis-attuned to or neglected, we can suffer relational and development trauma. These developmental gaps and severed neural connections can lead to living in pain, disconnection and chaos. To flourish as humans we need others to co-regulate, co-reflect and to grow brains with –we need this on an ongoing basis for life. It is the same in the psychedelic space - we need others to get our cues and to come into relationship with us when we have dropped into developmental gaps, dissociation, terror and places of thwarted growth. How do we as practitioners intervene wisely during a medicine session? This is a relational art form. In this webinar I share with you, my years of clinical experience within medicine spaces and what it means to facilitate with mutuality, reciprocity and nuanced attunement.

Health Canada has floated some changes to the cannabis act. Some are changes our sector has been advocating for for quite some time.   There hasn’t been a lot of talk about this. Interesting. Is everyone tired of advocating? Too busy to consider it? Not wanting to get your hopes up only to have them dashed once again?   Here’s a list from David Brown at StratCann.   ➡️ Curious what you think. What top 3 changes would have the biggest positive impact on your business? Are there any you feel would have a negative impact? Share your numbers in the comments.   1-    Increasing the threshold for micros from 200m2 to 800 m2 and the micro processing licence possession threshold from 600 kg to 2,400 kg of dried cannabis or its equivalent. 2-    Removing the requirement for actual THC and CBD on product labels, only total THC and CBD. 3-    Increasing the number of permitted alternate Quality Assurance Persons (QAPs) to “one or more” from the current allowance of “up to two”. 4-    Licensed processors would no longer be required to provide printed copies of the consumer information document with every cannabis product package sent. 5-    Formalizing COVID-19 era “flexibilities”. 6-    Adding grounds for suspension of any licences held by the same licence holder, should they have unpaid fees or have failed to submit a required statement of cannabis revenue for a licence as required under the Cannabis Fees Order. 7-    Amending the Industrial Hemp Regulations to remove the maximum THC concentration of 10 parts per million for industrial hemp grain derivatives; the testing requirement; labelling for wholesale; and import and export requirements. 8-    Allowing for differentiation in colour between the lid or cap of a container and the container itself. 9-    Permitting cut-out windows on packaging for dried or fresh cannabis products and cannabis seeds, while upholding the exclusion of cut-out windows for all other classes of cannabis. 10- Allowing dried or fresh cannabis products, in addition to cannabis plants and cannabis seeds, to be packaged in transparent containers while maintaining existing rules prescribing opaque or translucent packaging of all other classes of cannabis. 11- Removing the cumulative 10 mg THC limit for an outermost container of edible cannabis product to allow greater flexibility in packing multiple immediate containers, as long as the immediate containers do not have more than 10 mg of THC each. 12- Removing the requirement to file an NNCP to Health Canada for dried and fresh cannabis products. . #craftcannabis #cannabisindustry #cannabisbusiness #phenologic

This is what a recent #study #published in the Journal of Cannabis Research hopes to #address as a team of #researchers led by the University of Michigan Medical School investigated the #methods by which everyday #citizens receive their #information regarding cannabis, specifically pertaining to its #legality, which comes on the heels of its #classification from a #ScheduleI to #ScheduleIII drug recently being #recommended by the Department of Health and Human Services. For the study, the researchers conducted a #survey of 1,161 participants ages 18 and up regarding their cannabis use within the past year, reasons for #use, and the sources where they obtain their information regarding cannabis. The #participants consisted of 51 percent #women and 49 percent #men with 27 percent reporting using cannabis within the past year. Regarding their #sources of information, 35.6 percent reported it was from #family and #friends, 33.7 percent reported it was from #websites, 9.3 percent from #healthcare #providers, 8.6 percent from #employees where the cannabis was purchased, and 4.7 percent was from #government #agencies. The study concludes by saying, “In this #nationally #representative survey, we show that most #people draw #information about cannabis from friends and family or online, with very few #consulting their healthcare provider or #government agencies. As cannabis #accessibility and $legality is increasing, there is a strong need for better #clinician #education, #public #outreach strategies, and improved #communication between patients and clinicians about cannabis.” This study comes as #recreational and #medical cannabis continues to be #legalized across the United States, with only four states (Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, and South Carolina) classifying cannabis as “fully illegal”. What new #connections between cannabis and sources of information will researchers make in the coming years and decades? Only time will tell, and this is why we science!
