A precocious Canadian 12-year old explains in about 5mins how the current fiat #money + fractional reserve #banking + #debt + interest/#riba system is abused together with the help of politicians increase #inequality and impoverish citizens. (over 1mm hits). If you are going to accept the #fiat system let the private banks borrow from the central bank and pay interest to the government Vs the other way around. If you are happy to create money from nothing and create inflation... just invest it in infrastructure or assets - not consumption.

🇨🇦 Usually, I'd source and plot the data, but when it declines over 18 consecutive quarters, I don't think there's much point. This is why I made a pitch in April to the Sr. Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada to look to what made Japan great for ideas on how to turn our productivity around. Alas, to no avail. I guess we'll muddle through with the same-old/same-old hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Not only does Canada lag most developed economies, Canadian provinces also fall far behind almost all U.S. states... In what world would it be possible for the currency of a much weaker economy to keep up with one that is showing extreme resilience (as expected), observable growth, and provides far less risk to foreign investors? I never saw the scenario where Canada would cut rates before the Federal Reserve without crashing the Canadian dollar. It has been apparent for several months that the Canadian economy would eventually buckle at the current rate, whereas the Feds could make the case for further increases. ---------------------------------------- "The Canadian dollar could be in for a rough ride if the Bank of Canada cuts interest rates sooner and deeper than the Federal Reserve, a scenario that economists suggest is becoming increasingly likely as the U.S. economy continues to outperform." https://lnkd.in/gfCK84_A

Ah, I remember the good o' times. It was December 1997 sometime between 11 pm and 5 am, at a call center in Scarborough, Ontario. I was one of the fifteen-person team that provided night shift technical support for Sprint Dial-up Internet Services subscribers! Back then the pay was $12 an hour, which to a 17-year-old, was pretty good money. A call came through to me. Caller: "Yes, I can't get connected". Me: "I am happy to help. Have you received the Sprint Internet welcome package with the CD?" Caller: "Yes, I have it in front of me." Me: "You'll need to install the connectivity software to your PC by loading the CD" Caller: "Where do I put the CD" Me: "Locate your disc drive on your computer. It's has a plate with a circular mold in the middle" Caller: "I can't find it." Me: ***Thinking what could go wrong*** "Do you see something like a small rectangular button anywhere on your computer?" Caller: ***After around 20 seconds*** "I think so..." Me: "OK, press that" ***Hearing the sound of the CD drive ejecting*** Caller: "O MY GOD, IT OPENED!!" Me: "That. Is your CD drive, sir." Having been a tech #entrepreneur for 30 years now, this is absurd. Colin Deacon outlines key issues with the newly announced increase in Capital Gains taxes in #Budget2024 and long standing flawed policies. #Innovation doesn’t just happened. It comes about as a result of risk-taking entrepreneurs (taking little salary, if any, for long periods) who raise early-stage investment capital from Angel Investors (investing after tax dollars), who then work to attract foreign direct investment in order to build, grow, and scale in #Canada. This level of risk is taken in the hopes of a successful outcome of an exit (acquisition, IPO, etc.). Many successful outcomes lead to re-investment in other ventures and creation of new early-stage companies. Does it seem right to tax them again and again on after tax dollars? Re-investment tax credits, flow-through shares, or other solutions must be considered in order to mitigate the impact of Angel investors pulling back (leading to less deals for Venture Capital investors) and entrepreneurs leaving Canada.
