You're navigating rapid growth with co-founders. How can you ensure everyone stays focused?
We grew 202% in 2020, for an 8 figure saas that is off the charts. Here is what we did: Asynchronous Updates: We are primarily async. When we do sync calls we use @fellow to keep us focused. This resulted in clear, timely information when it suits us best. 🌍⏰ Unified Communication Platforms: Slack, google apps, jira all help with this. It's important in hypergrowth to understand that the platform is the manager. 📄 Goal Alignment with OKRs: We set and share rocks quarterly. This keeps us all rowing in the same direction. 🚣♂️ Document Everything Culture: Comprehensive documentation means anyone can jump in without waiting for a reply. Flexible Work Hours: We don't care when you work, just that you get work done. 🦉🐦

You're navigating time zone differences with your supervisor. How can you ensure seamless communication?
A counterintuitive perspective on this. STOP SYNCING! Successful remote teams use asynchronous management at their core. If you need to constantly do video calls with your team then they don't know the goals and outcomes they're measured by. I can measure the quality of a manager by the amount of sync time with their remote team. How to do this: 1. Create a project management system with quantifiable goals and KPI's that the individual contributor helped craft. 2. Create documentation so all basic information about the company is out of your head and into the company. 3. Encourage asynchronous communication by documenting updates on tasks and milestone completion. 4. Sit back and watch your company scale and your team thrive.

How can you keep team members productive when working from home?
Don't even think about going in without a roadmap. My playbook for an 8-figure success across 43 countries boils down to this: crystal clear expectations. Specify what you expect from each role. Even the intern should know those metrics. And you're not exempt from the standards you set. 9-to-5 is old news. With remote work, you don't have to worry about time or location. It's all about outcomes. Free your team from the mental confines of office hours and break rooms. Keep your eye on the end results. Aligning your team like this doesn't just keep the engine running smoothly; it aligns the pistons, gears, and belts with the very essence of your business objectives. That is the recipe for scalable success.

With the unprecedented rise in remote work due to the pandemic, many businesses have struggled with how to effectively transition to a distributed format. Meanwhile, companies that had always been remote-first had a unique advantage: a highly scalable set of work processes, a unique communication style, and the proper “async mindset” required to succeed without an office.
This groundbreaking guide unlocks the secrets and the lessons discovered by those pioneer entrepreneurs and founders who have figured out how to harness the async mindset and grow their businesses remotely in the most the seamless, freeing, and cost-effective ways.
Once you accept and master some fundamental differences, remote work can fuel higher productivity, eliminate time-wasting meetings and treacherous commutes, and strip away the ugly politics that often undermine the most talented employees. It also leads to great cultural inclusivity and richer cultural exchange.
Running Remote is for ventures of all stripes—companies small and large, one-person operations, mom-and-pop shops, and global mega-corporations. The lessons herein are as valuable for on-premises organizations as they are for the tech worker.
Readers will:
Master the fundamentals of the async mindset by exploring three overarching principles—deliberate overcommunication, democratized workflow, and detailed metrics.
Learn nuts-and-bolts techniques and real-life lessons from remote work trailblazers who built successful all-remote organizations before the pandemic.
Gain a better understanding of why hiring, on-ramping, and managing in a remote context is totally different—again, with methods and first-hand stories from the founders and leaders that did it first.
