Every time we talk about the economy we have to talk about social issues too, because social barriers become economic shortfalls. When we address social barriers and people can maximize their effort, the economy fares better. I know I will get push back on this but at least read the data below first.

Some high-level thoughts on why the RTO directive is more about knowledge mobilization than productivity. First, WFH may present an “opportunity cost” that is not fully appreciated. For instance, new recruits and mid-level employees may enjoy intangible benefits (eg., interpersonal networking, knowledge sharing) that can’t be readily accessed with digital connectivity. New research from the University of Ottawa (uOttawa) has provided a complicated glance into young women's responses to interpersonal conflict, with retaliation often the answer to rejection and perceived social exclusion by other females. I want to congratulate all the nominees of this year's Canadian Marketing Association awards. It was a remarkable experience to be a judge and review outstanding work showcased in this year's submissions. This year's contenders have set a new standard for marketing excellence from groundbreaking ideas to strategic brilliance and tangible results. Their innovative approach, strategic thinking, and relentless pursuit of success have not only delivered bottom-line impact but also evoked many feelings that resonate with audiences on a profound level. Here are some of my takeaways from my experience judging: 🎯 Emotionally Resonant: I was particularly impressed by campaigns that deeply connected with audiences by pulling on heartstrings. These entries tapped into the emotional core of their target demographic, using authentic storytelling to evoke powerful feelings and create a lasting impact. 🎯 Data-Driven Strategy: The use of data stood out as a key differentiator. The most successful campaigns didn’t just rely on creative instincts but were also driven by solid data points. By leveraging insights and analytics, these strategies were able to target their messages with precision, ensuring maximum relevance and effectiveness. 🎯 Innovative Omni-Channel Approaches: I noticed a strong trend towards omni-channel concepts that pushed beyond the boundaries of traditional PR tactics. These campaigns skillfully integrated multiple platforms and channels, creating seamless and engaging experiences that reached audiences wherever they were, ensuring a cohesive and consistent message across the board. I am excited to share my conversation with CharityVillage as part of an incredible curated selection of voices for their podcast, which discusses some of the findings and implications of the Burden of Care Report. I've posted here before about the report's concerning findings, and I speak about them again in the podcast. Some of our main findings in the report were that workers in the nonprofit sector were much more likely to be dissatisfied by their jobs (26% versus 19% in the private sector and 17% in the public sector), with lower job satisfaction driven by younger workers, service workers, first-generation Canadians, and women. Some great quotes from others: "The level of sacrifice I was expected to make in order to follow my passion, to have a career in the sector, was significant. And I don’t think people should be put in a situation where they have to make those choices." Zahra Esmail "One might infer that if you're paid well in the sector and you have a lot of autonomy and control, then the meaningfulness of the work and those other two things taken together produce higher levels of satisfaction." Wendy Cukier A few standout quotes from the other folks on the podcast: "People are questioning the quality of their jobs, they want good work, they don't want to just work for minimum wage and precariously and perhaps not have a pension to retire on."
