A promise to do whatever it takes, with all the tools in our toolbox, to fight local poverty and ensure everyone, in every neighbourhood, has everything they need to build a good life. It will not be easy, but fueled by the power of community, we will strengthen essential services, scale innovative solutions, and secure community spaces so they are there, close to home to meet urgent and emerging needs. We know the importance of having local solutions to local issues. And that’s why we’re investing in place-based work – tailored initiatives designed and led by community to respond to specific needs they face in their neighbourhoods. We are thrilled to announce a $1 million investment in the Jane-Finch neighbourhood. Our first round of grants will power 7 community-led projects that tackle systemic inequities. This is resident decision making that reflects the community’s vision for their neighbourhood and addresses food security, safety, employment opportunities and more. And we’re just getting started. Thank you to Gary Slaight and the Slaight Foundation for once again stepping up for community this holiday season and demonstrating the true spirit of giving. Homelessness affects individuals from all walks of life, and especially those in our community who have been structurally disadvantaged or face inequities.
