The on-duty death of Detective John Park, a husband and father, just days before Christmas, is devastating. The Toronto Police Service and the Toronto Police Association will provide unwavering support to his loved ones. The strength, character, and resilience of our members is needed at this time. Command and I joined a procession today, and I wish to acknowledge the TPS Board, Chair Ann Morgan, Mayor Olivia Chow, Michael Kerzner, Clayton Campbell, Toronto Paramedic Services and Toronto Fire Services for their support for the officer’s family and our members today.

Early this morning, an officer came in to contact with suspected Fentanyl during an arrest in the Toronto Police Service 53 Division. Thankfully other officers on scene administered care immediately and the officer was transported to hospital where they were treated and released. Our officers face many dangers and are trained to respond quickly in emergency situations. Thank you to our frontline for the work you do everyday.

Thank you to the Toronto Police Services Board for approving our 2025 Budget request. This year’s budget includes a multi-year hiring plan which was supported by the Board earlier this year. A multi-year hiring plan is essential in our ability to strategically address the ever growing complexities involved in policing a unique city like Toronto. A special thank you to everyone who participated in our budget process. Deputations were heard, surveys were conducted and many community engagements throughout the year helped inform this budget process. Thank you to everyone who engaged with us and helped inform this budget process. The development of this year’s budget and the multi-year hiring plan was led by our CAO, Svina D.. This budget is fiscally responsible and will deliver results. Thank you to her and the entire team who worked so diligently with City of Toronto staff and subject matter experts from across the Toronto Police Service. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the women and men of the Toronto Police Service. The Command Team remains committed to doing everything we can to ensure they are supported and have the resources they need to succeed. Thank you to all Toronto Police Service members for what they do each and every day and as always please continue to look after yourselves and each other.

Yesterday, the Toronto Police Service Board approved our budget request, which will ensure we will be able to increase our frontline and investigative capacity and bring the important Neighbourhood Community Officer program into four new neighbourhoods – as community safety is our top priority. tps.to/61639

  • On National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we remember the 14 women who lost their lives in the Montreal Massacre 35 years ago. The tragedy at École Polytechnique reminds us to remain vigilant and take action against gender-based violence. Together, we are committed to building safer, more respectful communities.

It was a great privilege for me to welcome our 54 new Special Constables this morning and to meet their family and friends. Each of them will enhance our organization with a wealth of diverse life and professional experiences, culture and languages that uniquely reflect the diversity of our amazing city. Congratulations to Deputy Chief Rob Johnson's son Daniel and welcome to the Toronto Police family.
