  • We are thrilled to support the Knights of Columbus and ACSA in providing winter coats for newcomer children in Canada! The funding that supported this event was done through our Good Neighbour program (GNP): Meridian's Social Impact program that funds all 87 branches to help them support community organizations they care about. With $20,500 raised, we were able to purchase 680 coats. Every coat distributed included an oversized Meridian bag, and a pair of winter gloves to help newcomers settle in. We are very excited to be on a "top" list with other great employers in the GTA as part of the Top 100 Employers in Canada. One thing I particularly like about leading this organization is how open our employees are to giving feedback on things that are great and things that could be better. I think it makes for a culture of openness which leads to alignment and performance. This story in the Globe and Mail featured on of our Contact Centre leaders. Thanks Kayla for sharing your thoughts on career advancement at Meridian.

  • At Meridian, our commitment to supporting communities runs deep. This World Food Day, we partnered with local food banks, donating $100 for every new Member who joined us, resulting in over $23,000 in direct donations. With additional contributions from our Good Neighbour Program, our total support exceeded $35,000. The success of this campaign would not have been possible without our frontline employees and the strong relationships they developed with their local food bank partners as well as our new Members. Its success has demonstrated our ability to grow with purpose – and the Social Impact team continues to find ways to embed our values into many aspects of life at Meridian. I moved all my personal savings into Meridian Credit Union today. You may ask, Will, aren't Credit Unions for old people? Won't you miss out financially? My answer to you; absolutely not. Credit unions appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds, and their goals are to provide the same level of financial freedom as large banks. Many millennials and Generation Z have no idea what a credit union is. However, many if not all, Credit Union values will appeal to them. So what is a Credit Union...? Credit unions are member-owned financial cooperatives that operate on a very different set of values compared to banks. These values guide their mission to serve communities rather than maximize profits. Here are the core values commonly associated with credit unions: 1. Member Focus Member Ownership: Credit unions are owned and democratically controlled by their members. What that means for you: You’re a co-owner with a voice, enjoying better rates, lower fees, and member-focused benefits. 2. Community Engagement Local Impact: Credit unions invest in the communities they serve, supporting local businesses, charities, and initiatives. What it means for you: Your membership supports local businesses, charities, and initiatives, strengthening your community. 3. Financial Inclusion Accessibility: Credit unions strive to offer accessible financial services to everyone, including those underserved by traditional banks. What it means for you: You have access to fair, inclusive financial services designed to meet your needs, no matter your background. 4. Ethical Practices Sustainability: Many credit unions prioritize environmentally sustainable practices and ethical investment choices. What that means for you: Know that your money is being invested in sustainable and ethical companies, not just those that drive the highest profit. Get fantastic financial service, supporting local businesses, the environment and the community. Sign me Up. #creditunion #canadianfintech #loyalty
