2024 has been a rollercoaster year. At Ipsos, we’ve certainly tracked and reported a number of negative trends in Canada this year, but there are a few bright spots. Ipsos’ Predictions 2025 Survey finds that globally, despite the cost of living crisis and conflicts around the world, fewer people say this year was bad: at 65%, the lowest since 2019. In Canada, this proportion remains higher (71%) but here too it has declined 4pts this year. https://lnkd.in/gW7KiwA2 While remaining lower than pre-COVID levels, fully seven-in-10 globally (and in Canada) say they are optimistic that 2025 will be better than this year. Personal well-being may contribute to this positive outlook, with 75% around the world (74% in Canada) planning personal resolutions for 2025, and a majority here and elsewhere expecting improvements in their mental and physical health in the coming year. And, on a lighter note, one third of us think we will find life on other planets in 2025, while one-in-five (13% in Canada) think aliens will visit earth. 84% of Canadians say their identity coexists alongside their cultural identity – it’s not about one or the other.
