The Discovery House Holiday Shop gives children living at the shelter the opportunity to shop and pick out a free gift for their parent. This season can be a challenging and overwhelming time for families healing from domestic violence, and simple but powerful activities like this help in a big way. A huge shoutout to the wonderful volunteers from Bird Construction for helping us set up our Holiday Shop! Your efforts brought so much joy to the families we work with. 🎁✨

Our Director of Community Engagement, Brittany Beatty, spoke with CBC’s Jim Brown last week about the impact of the postal strike, and how we have been navigating outreach to our supporters during this stressful time. 25% of Discovery House’s fundraising happens during the month of December. Our team has been working hard to get the word out through emails, text messages, and social media. https://lnkd.in/esW5vM2a -- Please consider making your Gift of Hope online this year and sharing our message with your networks. 💛 https://lnkd.in/gEnFhU6m

Last week, almost every member of the Discovery House team gathered for our annual staff retreat at the lovely Bowness Lions and Scout Club. With food, fun, laughs, and conversation, we built a stronger connection to each other, celebrated this year’s successes, and learned more about our goals. This devoted team is refreshed, revived, and ready to tackle 2025. We even created a fun and festive holiday playlist, full of the team’s favourite songs for your listening pleasure! It is as quirky and diverse as we are. 🎶 Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gtZsFJpP

Karen, a former client and now donor, came to Discovery House with her two sons after a three-week stay at an emergency shelter. She had bravely fled a dangerous cycle of abuse, fueled by the knowledge that the cycle of violence would continue and a determination to protect her children. Donate today and help give families like Karen’s a safe and warm place to call home for the holidays, and hope for a brighter future. Today, we honour the memory of the 14 young women whose lives were tragically taken on December 6, 1989, at Polytechnique Montréal. These women were daughters, sisters, and friends, who had their dreams and potential cut short by an act of gender-based violence. Please join us in saying their names and honouring their memory: - Geneviève Bergeron - Hélène Colgan - Nathalie Croteau - Barbara Daigneault - Anne-Marie Edward - Maud Haviernick - Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz - Maryse Laganière - Maryse Leclair - Anne-Marie Lemay - Sonia Pelletier - Michèle Richard - Annie St-Arneault - Annie Turcotte Let their legacy be a call to action to renew our commitment to end violence against women and girls, and to create a society where everyone can live free from fear and harm. We must work together to support survivors, challenge harmful behaviours, and promote equality and respect. #16Days #RememberThe14 #EndViolenceAgainstWomen
