🧩 What do communities need to develop a climate adaptation plan? Using climate data projections to identify risks, vulnerabilities and opportunities is a key piece of the puzzle. However, using socio-economic and ecological data alongside climate data will build a more complete picture of your community. Our latest guide, Beyond Climate, helps communities identify and find this data. Prepared by the International Institute for Sustainable Development, this practical tool helps users find existing data from easily accessible sources, specific to #Alberta, #Saskatchewan, and #Manitoba. 📗 Beyond Climate Guide: https://lnkd.in/ga-FrCNy Not sure how socio-economic and ecological data can help you? Check out our blog to understand more about socio-economic and ecological data and how we can use it as part of a holistic approach to adaptation planning. 💻 Beyond Climate Blog: https://lnkd.in/ge8ATcgw

ClimateWest reposted this
In this 'Meet a Climate Service Provider' series, you will meet a few of the people who work with the partner organizations of ClimateData.ca. We hope you get a better sense of what they do and what drives their work. Meet Elizabeth Shearer, MBA (Liz), Network Coordinator, ClimateWest Tell us about your job: “My role is to connect people in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba with relevant, meaningful, and accessible climate adaptation resources. If you want to be prepared for our changing climate and build a more resilient future, I can connect you with the right people, and help you find resources and climate data to develop a robust climate adaptation plan.” What is a myth you’d like to bust about climate services? “The myth I’d like to bust is that “Taking action and preparing for the effects of climate change is too expensive.” The reality is that the cost of inaction is much higher. Also, we know that for every $1 spent on adaptation investment today will return $15 in both direct and economy-wide benefits (Ness, 2023 https://lnkd.in/ewcVNJEz). Win-win!” What’s one thing you wish more people knew about climate data? “There are so many free tools and data sets to use to understand how your region is experiencing climate change impacts now and into the future. Knowledge is power!” What drives you to work in a field related to climate change? “I have been involved in environmental movements, education efforts and community capacity building in the environmental sector throughout my career, and I know it can be a heavy space to work in when the future can feel so daunting. I have a renewed motivation to create a more sustainable future since the birth of my daughter. I know that by adapting well to a changing climate, we can create more livable cities and happier healthy communities in the process for ourselves and future generations.” Learn more about ClimateWest here: https://climatewest.ca/
