Low-carbon cement for a low-carbon future
About us
Carbon Upcycling is cementing the foundation for a low-carbon future by reimagining what we consider as "waste” today. Our carbon capture and utilization technology is a drop-in solution for the world's hardest-to-abate industries. It provides a productive pathway for CO2 emissions and industrial waste byproducts – diverting them away from the environment – and upcycling them into critical materials for low-carbon cement. Since 2021, Carbon Upcycling has enabled thousands of tonnes of low-carbon cement to be deployed in our homes, cities, and communities. Carbon Upcycling is supported by a syndicate of strategic investors including Business Development Bank of Canada, Climate Investment, Oxy Low-carbon Ventures, and Clean Energy Ventures, as well as three of the world's leading cement manufacturers, CRH, Cemex, and Titan Cement. As recognition of our breakthrough technology, Carbon Upcycling has been recognized as a Global Cleantech 100, Reuters 100 Innovators Leading the Energy Transition, and a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. Carbon Upcycling is a certified B Corporation.

Cement and concrete are fundamental ingredients for the buildings and infrastructure that make modern life possible... but they are also responsible for 8% of global annual carbon pollution. To decarbonize this critical sector in a way that grows the clean economy and fosters innovative solutions and technologies, RMI, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA), in collaboration with The White House, convened key stakeholders from across the concrete value chain to identify actionable paths forward. The result? The Clean Concrete Pledge Initiative 🌟 As part of the pledge, some of the largest buyers and suppliers representing U.S. cities, states, real estate firms, and cement and ready-mixed concrete producers have committed to procure, demonstrate, or supply low-carbon concrete materials, sending a strong market signal to the U.S. concrete industry. Learn more about the inaugural pledge cohort, which categories they are taking action in, and how you can join these leaders in shaping the future of clean concrete 👉 https://bit.ly/3DnMDGp

How do you build sustainable smart cities? It starts with laying a strong (low-carbon) foundation. Our team had the pleasure of supporting the 2nd annual Alberta 2050 competition hosted by Fuse Collective (University of Calgary). The 36-hour event challenged students from across disciplines to develop a strategy to transform Calgary into a sustainable smart city. Carbon Upcycling Technologies joined judges from Accenture, Google, TC Energy, and the City of Calgary to select the top three teams. We were pleased to see themes like resource security and circularity play a significant role in each team's strategies. My favourite part was handing out the topographical Alberta trophies made of our upcycled low-carbon cement and our consumer brand, Oco's, carbon-captured 3D printing filament! Congratulations to all the teams, and thank you for representing the future of low-carbon innovation.

We welcomed our team of global Upcyclists to our first annual town hall to celebrate 2024 and realign on our mission. Our favourite part of the event was listening to the "why" driving our teammates. From a desire to make a meaningful impact to leaving behind a healthy world for our little ones, what ultimately connects us all is a shared vision for a sustainable future. Our collective why cements the foundation for our work as we approach 2025 and the second half of this crucial decade, where we will reduce 4 million tonnes of CO2 through capture and abatement. At Carbon Upcycling, we are a team of changemakers fuelled by our passion for sustainability, guided by our values, and dedicated to becoming the most impactful carbon-tech company of this decade. It's who we are and why we build.

A couple of weeks ago, the Carbon Upcycling team gathered for our first Townhall, connecting team members from Calgary, Edmonton, Denmark, Belgium, and Germany. A huge thank-you to Arlette, Lia, Rhea, and Dante for organizing such an amazing event to bring us together! In a world that’s moving faster than ever, we don’t often get a chance to pause—but when we do, it’s a powerful reminder of the incredible people driving our mission forward. At Carbon Upcycling, we meet industry where it’s at—delivering scalable solutions that drive measurable impact today and shape a sustainable tomorrow. Together, we reflected on scaling impact with urgency, focus, and accountability to ensure we tackle the challenges that matter most. 2024 was a year of change, growth, and alignment. Thinking back to January feels like a lifetime ago, and the progress we’ve made fuels my excitement for 2025. It’s the halfway point to 2030—a critical year for climate targets, including our own. With this exceptional team, I know we’ll continue to turn ambition into action and action into impact. Carbon Upcycling Technologies
