Today, on November 11, we come together to observe Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the United States. Last week on November 8, we also marked Indigenous Veteran’s Day. On these days, we honour the heroes who have made sacrifices to uphold our freedoms and values. This is a time to remember their dedication and courage, while also recognizing the exceptional bravery and resilience of our Canadian, Indigenous, and American veterans. #RemembranceDay #VeteransDay

It’s been a great few days participating alongside other forest community leaders at the Alberta Forest Products Association’s (AFPA) 82nd Annual General Meeting in beautiful Banff, Alberta. AFPA is the non-profit association that has represented the sustainable forest industry in Alberta since 1942, and Canfor is proud to take an active role. We’ve had incredibly important discussions about wildfire risk management and forestry solutions, managing healthy forests, EDI and the Forestry Together Alliance, economic reconciliation, sector prosperity and growth, and our industry’s contributions to sustainable, vibrant communities. It was great to hear from the Honourable Minister of Forestry and Parks, Todd Loewen, in a post-dinner keynote address last night, where he emphasized the role the Alberta forest sector plays in the well-being of our communities, economy, resources, and the overall forest landscape. Thank you AFPA for bringing us together and creating opportunities to learn, share perspectives and celebrate successes! Government of Alberta #AlbertaForestry #LoveABForests

We’re so proud of our Grande Prairie sawmill team, who were honoured and recognized yesterday by the Alberta Forest Products Association with an award for Outstanding Achievement in Health and Safety, recognizing their long-term dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards. Achieving top-tier safety is a team effort, and we applaud our people at Grande Prairie who work hard every day to ensure that their facility and woodlands operations are safe and productive places to build a career. Travis Peterson, Plant Manager; Jon Taszlikowicz, Woodlands Manager; and Tom Thompson, General Manager, Alberta Region, accepted the award on behalf of our stellar team at Grande Prairie.

As we commemorate National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we’re encouraged to come together to support healing and to find ways to move forward on past difficulties. The truth is about taking the time to understand past and present Indigenous Peoples’ experiences and the intergenerational impact of residential schools. It is also about supporting action and reconciliation as we chart a strong path forward. We respectfully acknowledge our Indigenous partners, employees, and families whose lives have been impacted through the direct or shared experiences of the devastating separation from their families, cultures and identities. On #OrangeShirtDay in Canada our employees are showing their support that #EveryChildMatters. #NDTR #TruthAndReconciliation

This week we celebrate the transfer our forest tenure in the Mackenzie Timber Supply Area in equal parts to the McLeod Lake Indian Band and the Tsay Keh Dene Nation. As the culmination of more than two years of collaborative and complex negotiations, the agreement demonstrates that mutually beneficial outcomes can be achieved when Nations and companies like ours work together. Chief Johnny Pierre of Tsay Keh Dene Nation noted that the agreement “is a concrete example of how good faith efforts to work together for mutual benefit can produce a “win-win” for both industry and Indigenous and other local communities even in very challenging times.” “It’s our hope that this tenure transfer to First Nations – with First Nations’ stewardship – will help unlock fibre supply in the region,” said Ross Lennox, Vice President, Woodlands Canada. “We’ve been working hard to co-create an agreement that supports established local Indigenous companies that are committed to meaningfully reinvigorating the local forest industry and structuring it with terms that can support sustainable and economically viable operations.” “Our Nation’s purchase of additional forest tenure in the region is more than an economic transaction; it is a pivotal step in our Nation’s journey,” continued Chief Harley Chingee of the McLeod Lake Indian Band. “This transaction will strengthen the economic position of our communities in Mackenzie, McLeod Lake, and the Omineca Region as a whole and reflects our ongoing commitment to creating lasting economic benefits and fostering a sustainable future for our people,” he continued. We applaud everyone who has been dedicated to concluding this agreement. We especially thank Chief Harley Chingee and Chief Johnny Pierre for their leadership and commitments to forest stewardship and revitalizing the local forestry industry.
