Researchers at Tel Aviv University have developed an innovative research model that allows them to decode the mechanism underlying a severe and rare neurological disease, characterized by symptoms such as epilepsy, developmental delay, and intellectual disability. This breakthrough could pave the way for various neurological treatments. https://lnkd.in/eE7B2EQV #NeurologicalDisease #neuroscience #SupportResearch #epilepsy #TAUCanada Tel Aviv University Sagol School of Neuroscience, Tel Aviv University The Lowy International School, Tel Aviv University Faculty of Natural Sciences in Ben-Gurion University-הפקולטה למדעי הטבע באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון Ben-Gurion University Canada Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

About us
Canadian Friends of the Tel Aviv University (CFTAU) provides direct funding support for the educational and research goals of Tel Aviv University (TAU), Israel’s largest and most comprehensive institution of higher learning, facilitated by enhanced public awareness of the University’s achievements and programming through the development of a strong local network of support. As part of a global network of friends’ associations, CFTAU facilitates academic and research partnerships between Canada and Israel as well as establishing scholarships, supporting research, cultivating student and faculty exchanges and recruiting Canadian students to participate in the TAU International Program. Founded in 1956, Tel Aviv University has grown into the largest and most influential university in Israel today. From ground-breaking research to life-saving technology, TAU is shaping the future of Israeli society and producing alumni that become tomorrow’s leaders, teachers and innovators. Many of Israel’s leaders in medicine, technology, law, music, film, and governments are graduates. In 2019, the Marker magazine published its list of 40 most influential people under 40 in Israel, and TAU Alumni had 12 entries. The university has been ranked 8th among the top 10 schools globally for producing successful, venture capital-backed founders of companies, in a survey of over 13,000 entrepreneurs worldwide (Pitchbook 2019). TAU remains the only non-U.S. university to make the top 10

🚨 Celebrating Excellence in Statistics 🚨 The King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium awarded the prestigious Rousseeuw Prize in Statistics—often dubbed the Nobel Prize of Statistics—to Prof. Yoav Benjamini, Prof. Daniel Yekutieli, and Prof. Ruth Heller from Tel Aviv University! 🎓✨ The $1M prize recognizes their groundbreaking contributions to the False Discovery Rate (FDR), a statistical method that identifies meaningful findings while limiting false discoveries—transforming fields like genomics, neuroscience, economics, astronomy, and more. 🌍📊 Despite protests outside the ceremony in Leuven calling for an academic boycott, Prof. Benjamini delivered a powerful speech: 🗣️ "Science must act as a bridge between societies. We must preserve scientific collaborations, avoid boycotts, and protect science from political interference." This work, originating from a need in medical research, now impacts countless fields—helping researchers around the world make sense of mountains of data and uncover significant discoveries. 🧬🧠🔭 👏 Join us in congratulating these trailblazers for their exceptional achievements and dedication to advancing science for the benefit of all! On World Violin Day, we highlight the TAU Buchmann-Mehta School of Music (BMSM) Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the legendary Maestro Zubin Mehta, and honour the power of music to create bonds and inspire unity. Recently, the BMSM celebrated the 110th anniversary of TAU’s longtime academic partner Goethe University Frankfurt with an outstanding performance at Hessischer Rundfunk's Broadcasting Hall. Maestro Mehta travelled to Germany to conduct this concert himself as a sign of appreciation to his close friend Josef Buchmann, founder of the TAU Music School. He was joined by the full-size BMSM Symphony Orchestra coming from Tel Aviv upon the initiative and with the generous support of the Music School’s Patrons, Dr. h.c. Josef and Dr. h.c. Bareket Buchmann. The concert brought together luminaries from academia, government and Jewish leadership, including Germany’s Minister of Education Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Central Council of Jews in Germany President Dr. Josef Schuster, President of TAU's German Friends Uwe Becker who represented the State of Hesse as State Secretary for Finance and Hessian State Government's Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight against Antisemitism, as well as Goethe University President Prof. Enrico Schleiff. His opening remarks highlighted the Universities' shared values, their commitment to academic freedom, and Goethe University's steadfast solidarity with Israeli academia: “At a time when other universities turn their backs on Israel, we are sending a clear signal that we stand with you and are determined to continue our cooperation with you.” Read more here! https://lnkd.in/dcXWFSNt #WorldViolinDay #StringsOfTheWorld #TAUSchoolOfMusic #TAUCanada Tel Aviv University Goethe-Universität Frankfurt Hessischer Rundfunk

On Nobel Prize Day, December 10, we recognize the outstanding contributions of Prof. Rafi Bistritzer from Tel Aviv University's School of Physics and Astronomy. Already globally recognized for his work in theoretical physics, Dr. Bistritzer has been featured on the prestigious Nobel Prize prediction list. Prof. Bistritzer specializes in the theoretical study of complex two-dimensional materials formed by layering thin sheets on top of each other. Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro’s lab at TAU’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences has collaborated with Professor Helena Florindo’s lab at the University of Lisbon to produce a novel nano-vaccine for COVID-19. The 200-nanometer particle trains the immune system against all common COVID-19 variants, just as effectively as existing vaccines. Moreover, unlike other vaccines, it is conveniently administered as a nasal spray and does not require a cold supply chain or ultra-cold storage. These unique features pave the way to vaccinating 3rd-world populations, as well as the development of simpler, more effective, and less expensive vaccines in the future. The revolutionary study was featured on the cover of the prestigious journal Advanced Science.
