Last month, AltaML Co-CEO Nicole Janssen was part of a panel in Toronto addressing the challenges and opportunities of AI. A key focus was on business leaders tackling AI strategy now, rather than waiting. "Don't ask the question, 'What am I going to do with AI?' but, 'What am I going to do with AI by the end of the year?'" said Janssen at the Tech Horizons Executive Forum. The first panel of #ASCConnect2024 features Dr. Ryan Clements leading Carole Piovesan, Chad Langager and Martin Petrin in a discussion of the regulatory implications of artificial intelligence on capital markets. Among other things, it breaks down the risk-benefit analysis of AI in finance. Potential/benefits: research (particularly re: risk assessment), automation (particularly of low-value items, to allow more time and effort toward high-value tasks), customizations, and more accuracy/less risk of human error. Risks: inaccurate data inputs, outdated data, explainability (more explainability = less performance), cyber security, and systemic risk (particularly when data is provided only from a small group of players).

Thank you to everyone who made it out! A real exciting energy in the House. A huge thank you to Amazon for sponsoring this one, and to Cameron MacCarthy and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) for being core sponsors of Long Calgary.
