We are so excited to announce that Affinity has been recertified with ClimatePartner as carbon neutral for the third consecutive year! This milestone marks a significant achievement as we've successfully offset a total of 179,816 kg of CO2 since starting this initiative. This year, we've taken a step further towards reducing our environmental impact. We have committed to achieving an 80% renewable electricity goal by 2025! This move aligns with our ongoing efforts to innovate and implement sustainable practices across our operations. 🌱   Our offset this year supports a transformative project in Laos that provides clean drinking water across the entire country. An astonishing 80% of households in Laos rely on boiling their water to prevent diseases. This project not only supports the health and wellness of countless communities in Laos, but also supports in decreasing CO2 emissions that come from boiling water over an open fire. Our chosen climate project combats this issue by distributing over 100,000 ceramic water filters. These filters remove harmful bacteria and suspended solids, ensuring safe drinking water is accessible.💧   We're incredibly proud of our team's dedication and perseverance in supporting these initiatives. From going paperless to embracing a remote-first work policy, every step we take is aimed at keeping our promise to the planet. I had the privilege of attending the Kinship Career Summit, where 142 students, 73 company representatives, and 18 inspiring speakers gathered to support Indigenous talent and career growth. One of my favorite moments was listening to Candice Loring’s story, from high school dropout to Director of Indigenous Relations and Professor at UBC. Her words hit home: "Never question whether you belong, and say yes to the things that scare you most." Truly a day of connection and inspiration! 🌟    #KinshipCareerSummit #IndigenousCareers

Last week, Daniel Lamb and I attended the HIMSS Eastern Canada Chapter (HIMSS Section de l’Est du Canada) Conference, and it was a refreshing reminder of the real-world impact that digital health can have when done right.   Brendan Kwolek, PMP, and Amy Yee hit home on something we often overlook—cybersecurity isn’t just an IT issue. It’s part of patient care and needs to be woven into everything, from daily operations to clinical priorities. They talked about downtime simulation exercises at Halton Healthcare, showing how hands-on strategies can really prepare teams for the unexpected.   Then Ilan Lenga and Sarah. Muttitt shared some exciting insights on Epic CIS, which is now in a third of Ontario’s hospitals. Their vision? A future where all systems connect seamlessly, creating a single patient record that can be accessed across the province. Imagine the impact of that on care continuity and knowledge-sharing!   Finally, Chelsea King and Bhavana P. reminded us of something crucial: digital integration should be done with empathy. They emphasized how involving end-users, setting meaningful success metrics, and driving cultural change are as important as the tech itself. It’s about listening and making sure the transformation works for everyone, not just the system.   All in all, it was a fantastic experience to reconnect with others and hear such forward-thinking ideas. Lara and I had the opportunity to attend the AI Summit at British Columbia Institute of Technology last Friday, where we heard from some of the top minds in AI. The talks gave us fresh perspectives on how AI is changing the game, especially when it comes to emotional intelligence in decision-making and perspective. We left with thought provoking insights that we’re eager to apply moving forward. My Thought - There's a lot of fear in the economy around AI taking over jobs because of its advanced IQ. But the belief that humans are irreplaceable comes from our unique emotional intelligence (EQ) and the "human factor." Manuj Aggarwal, made an interesting point: we're taught to develop our IQ through education and work, but what we're often lacking is EQ. And this is where AI can actually help us – by supporting and enhancing our emotional intelligence. If you know me, you know my deep affinity for ChatGPT. Often referred to as my 'best friend', It’s become part of my daily life. Last week, James Rahe and I attended the AI Summit Vancouver, and it was very cool to explore new ways to work with my digital 'bestie.' One of my favorite insights came from speaker Manuj Aggarwal, who demonstrated how we can prompt questions and request responses from specific frameworks or perspectives, like the Socratic method. It was also reassuring to know that ChatGPT, while almost perfect, won't be able to replace EQ. That's on us 😉
