Exactly one week ago, the performance.now() conference concluded, leaving attendees with plenty of ideas and discussions- our team included! 😁 The energy from the event has sparked conversations about a potential online gathering during the winter months and even the upcoming deadline for talk submissions at #FOSDEM2025. While we wait for the conference videos to become available on the #PerfNow YouTube channel, here are some of the key takeaways from the event: https://lnkd.in/deZfKc-R 📌 Some speakers have also shared their slides, so be sure to check them out for additional insights.

Is it too late to jump on the #WebAlmanac hype train? We’re so thrilled to see it revived for 2024! 🎉 Great to see some familiar faces who made this year’s edition extra special: ✨ Lora Raykova and Niko Kaleev from the NitroPack team, diving deep into the CMS chapter ✨ Sia Karamalegos and Rick Viscomi, sharing their expertise in the Performance chapter as reviewers And an extra round of applause for Michelle O'Connor and Yusuf Seyhan for ensuring the almanac not only delivers incredible data but also looks absolutely adorable 😊 Kudos to everyone involved—this is a gift to the #webperf community we’re all lucky to have. 🙌🤩

If there’s one thing Google Chrome Google Chrome''s team is committed to, it’s keeping #DevTools relevant and powerful for today’s debugging and monitoring needs. The latest release brings updates to the Performance panel, making it easier to pinpoint issues and understand what's affecting performance. But the real standout? #Gemini is now in #ChromeDevTools! AI assistance means that not only debugging and understanding CSS, but also overall code structure and site performance are more accessible than ever. The gap between experts and newcomers is getting smaller, making site building and coding more understandable for #webperf and dev enthusiasts worldwide. Last week, Jack Franklin gave a great talk on this at the performance.now() conference. While we wait for the video on #perfnow’s YT channel, here’s a quick overview of what’s new: https://lnkd.in/dYd8k3iK

What a #webperf week! ⚡️🚦 Thanks for the amazing Day 2 at performance.now() conference! For those who couldn’t attend, here’s a recap of what you missed: - Tim Kadlec kicked off the day with a realistic look at the current state of performance and the urgency to innovate to meet the growing "need for speed." With vast potential in the browser, speculative loading is just the beginning. - Jack Franklin showcased recent updates in DevTools, with highlights on AI enhancements and performance dashboard improvements. Not to mention a cameo from our favorite duo, Barry Pollard and Jecelyn Yeen (don’t they make the most epic videos? 🔥) - Mandy Michael tackled an often-overlooked topic: font optimization. While system fonts are best for speed, they’re not always popular with designers and marketers 😅. - The fire duo from RUMvision presented some interesting case studies on INP showing that INP is fixable if you can detect it. Applying speculative loading also helps, as prerendered pages have already executed their JavaScript (We see the same thing with our clients, as well). - It was also great to learn from Paul Williams and Jason Williams what Bloomberg does behind the scenes. Their Container Timing definitely caught the attention of our technical team. Here’s the GitHub repo if you’re curious: https://lnkd.in/d6nm82C5 - Daniel Roe 🏡 opened Pandora's JS boxwith a valuable perspective on bundling the right way, recommending tools to help optimize JavaScript. - Annie Sullivan wrapped up with actionable tips to improve web performance, sharing great resources like SpeedCurve’s blog on performance plateaus and Chromium's deep dive into performance tuning: https://lnkd.in/dSRcra4u https://lnkd.in/eAn35Zw Next Stop: #PerfNow 2025! 🎉

If you are at performance.now() conference and have performance questions or want a quick site audit, swing by Google’s Help Desk around 2.20 pm—the team will be there and ready to help! And even if you can't make it then, still stop by! This year's volunteers are incredible, and there's so much to learn from them 💫

Great talks, smart discussions, and a lot of knowledge sharing—that’s the performance.now() conference in a nutshell 🤩 Our highlights so far: - Harry Roberts shared a thought that everyone in the perfromance world can truly resonate with: Lab data is useful for testing but not ideal for monitoring real-world performance. - Tammy Everts presented some great stats on the state of #webperf, noting that pages are growing in size, with JavaScript and video content being the main contributors. - Loved the list by Paul Calvano with the most common performance mistakes (let’s be honest, we’ve all made a few! 😅) - Anna Migas offered a great perspective on #CWV, focusing on users who often don’t fall within the 75th percentile metric. - It was fantastic to see an accessibility track as well, with Eric Bailey providing practical insights on structuring the DOM and using semantic HTML. What were your favorites so far?

Next stop 🔜 Mozilla's performance.sync(). Rumor has it there will be a boat ride involved! 🛶 (Hopefully, it won’t be a rowing one 😁) There will be some amazing talks that we don’t want to miss: Gustav Ernberg von Heijne on improving Ads and #webperf Jacob Groß sharing the perf metrics that businesses truly care about And we definitely want to catch up with Tim Vereecke to chat more about #SpeculationRules Joining as well? Let's meet up!
-
What better way to warm up for the performance.now() conference than with another mini (un)conference? 😁 The team is having the best time at the WebPerfDays unconference in Google’s Amsterdam office chatting about everything #webperf, speculative loading and how to bring performance closer to business. Huge thanks to the Google team, Henri Helvetica Nic Jansma Rick Viscomi, and Yoav Weiss for putting this event together!

Did you know that Henry Ford once collaborated with Mito Orozov, a Bulgarian engineer from Vratsa and called him the greatest industrial engineer he has ever met? Last night, at BESCO's Hall of Fame, we were reminded that this spirit of Bulgarian innovation is alive and thriving! 🚀 If you weren’t there, we will try to give you some highlights: - The night unfolded in one of Sofia's architectural gems - the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. Talk about setting the stage for innovation! 🎭 - Five stellar nominations (two of them #Oneof11) lit up BESCO's category for ecosystem builders - the entrepreneurs who've shaped our startup scene over the last decade. And when we say stellar, we mean it: Svilen Rangelov and Konstantin R. (Dronamics), Mihail Stoychev and Georgi Petrov (now Uxify), Raycho Raychev (EnduroSat), Hristo Hristov (Darik.bg), and taking home BESCO's unicorn award - Ivo Tzenov (SiteGround). Big congrats, Ivo! 🦄 - One cocktail that stole our hearts with its berry foam and name- Boleron’s berry 🫐 (#Oneof11) Thank you BESCO - The Bulgarian Entrepreneurial Association for doing what you’re doing and for reminding us that it’s not just about us succeeding as individuals but us supporting each other to succeed as a community.
