Morocco: New Railway Line to Connect Casablanca and Beni Mellal The project aims to enhance connectivity and transportation infrastructure between major cities in Morocco by facilitating the movement of goods and passengers.  It is expected to contribute to regional development and economic growth, particularly in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region. In addition to the Casablanca-Beni Mellal projects, Morocco has other plans to further expand its railway network. This includes the Kentira-Marrakech high-speed rail project. The 375-kilometer line connecting the two cities aims to revolutionize travel by reducing travel times and increasing efficiency. Curious about the future of the Schaerbeek-Formation railway site in Brussels?   The project aims to establish a strategic vision for the disused Schaerbeek-Formation railway area. Connected to the canal, the road network and the railroad, this location is an ideal spot for new development. The plan is a new hub for economic transition, multimodal logistics and circular economy, within a reinforced green-blue network. The concept aims at creating a new economic and logistics hub to revitalize the existing context in a holistic way, providing for a sustainable transformation of the area, coherent with the region’s climate ambitions.   The Scharbeek-Formation project is highly collaborative: it is a Bruxelles-Capitale Region project, led by perspective.brussels, coordinated by ORG and made up of ARIES Consultants, e-biom, Rebel, BUREAU BAS SMETS, switchrs, Traject and Common Ground. The design process integrates participation and exchange with public and private stakeholders. It was a valuable day! A lot of information and knowledge was shared. And this is so important. Urban Logistics is a very fragmented sector. Most stakeholders know few and few stakeholders only know a part of the system good and from their own perspective or discipline. Cities and urban logistics sector face a lot of challenges. In workforce (enough employees), in having and developing new robust, efficient and affordable logistic chains while facing justified measures from cities to become sustainable, reduce harm to our health (zero emission) and staying livable and safe. It all is very, very complex; multidisciplinairy and multi-layered. I adressed these issues and the need for more and better collaboration between companies, industry organizations, governments and knowledge institutes. We need to know more, collectively, about the urban logistic system and develop a feasible road to sustainable urban logistics in 2050 or earlier together. On top of it all I adressed the important role of logistics in contributing to a circular economy to come in place. Stuff and materials need to be used and reused differently. That means new and other flows. What will those flows look like and how can we, for instance, use data, AI, and spatial planning to make them feasible?

NEW ARTICLE ALERT - TRANSPORT RESILIENCE AND COVID If you want to know more about urban transport planning, Covid-19 and resilience this is the definitive Special Issue that will allow you to scan through the 'big picture' of the mobility interventions addressing Covid-19 and its numerous transport-related challenges. A truly interdisciplinary, multi-method and international piece of work published by the prestigious CITIES journal. Our editorial with my long-term collaborator Dr Efthimios Bakogiannis (NTUA) is a crystal clear snapshot version of this collection highlighting, we believe, the key messages of 21 excellent research contributions, conveying how you can effectively plan resilient transport systems in times of disruption and emergency. Our conclusions and epimyth are very telling - a single page with emergency and long-term anti-disruption solutions that may also come very handy when preparing our transport eco-systems for the mega-challenge of climate change. Plenary meeting of the UIC - International union of railways #UICrail #Passenger #Services #Group (PSG) hosted by SBB CFF FFS in #Zurich Participants were coming from everywhere: railway undertakings, of course, solutions users and providers but also our European colleagues of CER (Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies) and International Rail Transport Committee (CIT) to inform about the last fresh evolutions of our framework. This sector has a real good atmosphere, something which is precious to create in common 👌👏 A very important meeting for this #UIC sector covering all topics dealing with #ticketing / #distribution / #information / #passenger with diseases (among others), because we reviewed: ✅ the activities of the subgroups, ✅ the 2025 #trends and priorities (OSDM, Real Time, eTCD, MERITS, PRM ABT, PASSAGE will have developments) ✅ future #projects / services / #products ✅ and #budgets! A lot of work is made to support the #ticketing #roadmap adopted by railways companies especially in Europe. Thanks a lot to all the participants too numerous to be quoted here. I had the opportunity to have a conversation at the closing session of the ITF - International Transport Forum Summit with Juan Carlos Munoz, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile, Burkhard Jung, Mayor of Chile, and Lake Sagaris, Professor and Expert in inclusive mobility. It was important to remind that transport #decarbonisation is not just about providing clean vehicles but also making sure mobility leads to #socialinclusion and more #competitiveeconomy. This is what #sustainability is about.

[2/3] Going back from #SaudiArabia in #Riyadh where I could meet players #investing in #rail #development in Middle-East. With the introduction of Marc GUIGON I could discuss with our Transport General Authority (TGA) UIC - International union of railways #UICrail members especially: Bader Al Hujailan Thamir Alkhalifa Major topics were about: ✅ TGA acts as railway regulator in the Kingdom, so very attentive to #safety level. We discussed very concrete matters, following the principle that fragmentation of responsibilities could be an issue. ✅ The numerous projects need rail #expertise background, that #UIC can bring. ✅ An unseen mobility project of big big big mass transit (I won’t say too much), with restricted locations and timeframe.
