Manufacturing benefitting from robotics + AI! 🧬 How has vision AI on steroids helped to boost quality control? Unilin is a global leader in laminate flooring. The reason for their success? Impeccable quality + designs that are as close to real wood as possible. 🪵 Since the pattern on the laminate resembles real wood, it is hard to tell a defect. For a machine, it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between a defect like a scratch on the surface, caused by a machine and a natural feature in the wood. That’s why human operators do the quality control. However, because of the speed and the intensity, human operators can not do this for more than 2 hours in a row. 🔍 And the speed of the production is limited by the human ability to process so much visual information. Robovision found a better way. Thanks to machine learning, machines can tell defects from features at high speed, 24/7, without tiring. Not only does this dramatically improve the quality, but it also reduces waste because the Robovision platform spots the defects more consistently and earlier in the process.
