This history reminds us that DevOps is really an experience-based movement—from practitioners, by practitioners, sharing groundbreaking practices and discussing what works and what doesn’t. DevOps isn’t a 'thing,' a product, or a framework. Nobody actually owns it, and that’s something good in my opinion! Quick reflections on DevOpsDays Belgium.. Smaller conferences are where it's at. With just 200 people over 2-3 days, I had way more meaningful chats and connections than at those massive 1,000+ people events. The talks were top-notch, and the organization was on point. After six years in DevOps, it was awesome meeting some of the OGs and hearing their take on where things are heading. Left with my brain buzzing with ideas. I even gave a keynote. Totally out of my comfort zone speaking to 200 people, but I got some solid feedback, and it's opened a bunch of new doors for me. Overall, I learned a lot. Now comes the hard part—figuring out how to put all that into practice, whether it's myself, technical stuff, team dynamics, or pulling off events like this myself.

Interesting read from Luc van Donkersgoed on the drawbacks of the GenAI hype. GenAI is an enabler to the core business, but the core business still runs on compute + network + storage, has scalability / reliability concerns which need to be handled, and so on. I truly don't believe GenAI is a magical potion to fix all the challenges that we encounter when building a solution. Adding Co-Pilot suffix to everything does not solve all problems. Infusing GenAI conversational interfaces into existing applications is fun, but I still prefer building a scalable, distributed solution from the ground-up that serves real users. #ai #genai #cloudengineering

Throwback to The X-Files and Artificial Intelligence! Just over 30 years ago Deep Throat asked Mulder "How much do you know about artificial intelligence?" Back in the 90s, AI was more science fiction than everyday reality. That's obviously no longer true. AI is now woven into our daily lives, from chatbots and recommendation algorithms to complex machine learning systems transforming industries. Yet, the question remains just as crucial. How much do we truly understand about the technology shaping our future? Computers may not yet be going rogue and killing people for self-preservation, but AI is advancing quickly and ethical considerations, data privacy, and the societal impacts of AI are of equal threat.
