🙌 Last week, we had the pleasure of participating in the Parliament Magazine's working lunch on “Reshaping #Cardiometabolic Health: An Integrated Strategy for a Healthier Europe,” hosted by MMD members MEP Andras Kulja MD and MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis. 🔎 This insightful event highlighted the urgent need for integrated strategies to tackle diabetes, #cardiovascular diseases (#CVD) and #obesity. The interconnectedness between diabetes and other #NCDs underscores the importance of a holistic, transversal, person-centred, and personalised approach to both #prevention and #management. 🔵 MEP Andras Kulja MD drew attention to the growing burden of #NCDs and diabetes, emphasising the social and economic impact of diabetes-related #complications. He highlighted the need for better access to innovative #treatments, improved #screening practices and collaborative #research to enhance solutions. 🔵 MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis called for strategies focused on #protection, #prevention, #participation and #promotion of health, emphasising the need to address the commercial and economic determinants of health. He urged for targeted action on #cardiometabolic diseases to reduce premature deaths and called for evidence-based solutions supported by #digital tools. 🔵 MMD member, MEP Tomislav Sokol highlighted the importance of leveraging EU #funding and #regulation, such as the European Health Data Space (#EHDS), to advance #research and #innovation in treatments. He also emphasised the role of funding for improved #detection and #screening practices. 🔵 MEP Elena Nevado Del Campo underlined the importance of improving #education and raising #awareness of chronic conditions like diabetes as #prevention strategies, reminding us that #health must remain a top priority for policymakers. 🔵 IDF Europe Regional Manager, Elisabeth Dupont stressed that 50% of people with diabetes do not their treatment targets, leaving them more exposed to #complications. She called for early #diagnosis, a less siloed approach and greater focus on #comorbidities to support a healthier Europe. 🔵 Prof. Luc VAN GAAL called for a stronger focus on #women's health and the importance of early #screening for cardiometabolic diseases. He emphasized the need to improve the #accessibility and #affordability of medicines, treatments and devices to help people achieve optimal health outcomes. 🙏 We extend our heartfelt thanks to MEP Andras Kulja MD and MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis for their strong support to the #diabetes community. Thanks also to MEP Elena Nevado Del Campo and MEP Tomislav Sokol for joining the event and contributing to this important discussion. 💙 Together, we remain committed to driving impactful collaborations within the #NCD community to improve the health and quality of life of #EU citizens.

🌎Today, we call for universal access to medicines and #healthcare services for everyone living with #diabetes, regardless of their migratory status. 🚧No one should face barriers to essential healthcare—migrants and refugees often face #challenges accessing life-saving diabetes care due to inequalities and lack of #resources. 🙌We advocate for inclusive healthcare systems that protect the rights of all people living with diabetes, no matter where they come from or where they live. A big thank-you to Sanofi for making us feel so welcome during this insightful three-day event! 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝟭 & 𝟮 The first two days were packed with working sessions and project updates from our consortium members, both in-person and online. We reflected on key deliverables and milestones achieved in the past year and explored what lies ahead. Our project leads Kim Hawkins and Mira Zuidgeest perfectly summarized it in three key words: 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. A highlight of Day 2 was a virtual guest appearance by Dr. Leonard Sacks, Acting Deputy Director of the FDA’s Office of Medical Policy, who clarified the FDA’s new guidelines for decentralized clinical trial (DCT) approaches—a critical discussion for our consortium’s work. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯: 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 The final day opened with Paloma Mallorquin from Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), who shared IHI’s expectations for delivering impactful, sustainable outcomes as a public-private partnership. Paloma emphasized that effective communication is crucial for showcasing our work to external stakeholders and reaffirmed the value of public private partnerships, noting the consortium’s excellent progress so far. We also welcomed Rod Junor and Joachim Lövin from TransCelerate BioPharma Inc., who provided updates on TransCelerate’s work around site and patient preferences in DCTs. Their session led into an engaging panel discussion on the future of DCTs, moderated by Isla Mackenzie. Panelists, including Joao Nabais, 𝗧𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗧𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮, 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗿, debated whether we’re placing too much burden on sites and patients—an important topic for the field. Finally, we wrapped up with a Q&A panel on RADIAL, featuring Mira Zuidgeest, Helga Gardarsdottir, Yvonne van Rijswick, Bart Lagerwaard, Sten Hanke, 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗮 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗿, and Megan Heath. They shared challenges and insights gained from their work on our proof-of-concept study RADIAL, offering valuable insights for the consortium moving forward. Before concluding, we celebrated the season with a trip to a Christmas market in Paris—a perfect end to a productive meeting! 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱.
