The EU #circulareconomy for #packaging is currently under massive pressure mainly because of cheap, oftentimes non-EU-compliant recyclates from third countries. In a message to EU Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall and Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, Ecopreneur.eu calls on the European Commission to implement existing laws and introduce legal mechanisms to control and certify imports of #recycledplastic as a matter of urgency. Together with Werner & Mertz GmbH, REMONDIS Gruppe and ALPLA Group, we have drafted a joint paper to help the Commission address this pressing issue in a timely manner. https://lnkd.in/en8dA5F8

🚨 A call for smart implementation of EU sustainability rules over disruptive U-turns We have joined forces with 90+ organisations representing civil society, business, banks and investor interests to publicly respond to the recent #omnibus proposal announcement by the European Commission's President, Ursula von der Leyen. At a moment where European leaders are seeking to boost competitiveness and attract major financing to support companies’ sustainability transition, the statement shared with EU and national policy-makers emphasises: 1️⃣ The role of the EU sustainability legal framework as a catalyst for economic transformation 2️⃣ Companies’ need for legal certainty over short-sighted political reactions 3️⃣ The importance of promoting a pragmatic implementation that prevents over-compliance approaches 4️⃣ The risk-based nature and built-in flexibility of the EU standards 5️⃣ The need to protect the EU market and level the playing field globally 💪 We strongly encourage policymakers to focus on supporting a smart and easy implementation of EU sustainability reporting standards (#ESRS), instead of playing ping-pong with the legal framework. 59 companies unite to urge for continued commitment to the EU Green Deal Brussels, 4 November 2024 59 companies and business organisations, including Ecopreneur.eu - The European Sustainable Business Federation, have signed a statement urging the EU to ensure the continuation of the EU Green Deal and utilise existing environmental standards to strengthen European businesses while also serving the climate and nature. The signatories are leaders in sustainable practices within a wide variety of sectors across Europe, and represent over 800,000 employees and more than €207 billion in 2023 alone. This statement is an acknowledgement of the importance of strong EU-wide laws that provide a unified framework and protect the resilience of businesses in these challenging times. "Continue pursuing the ambitious goals of the European Green Deal and its timely implementation are key for creating a sustainable, competitive EU economy," says Arthur ten Wolde, Executive Director of Ecopreneur.eu. In the past few years, the EU achieved significant progress with the EU Green Deal. Attempts to roll back or dilute existing environmental and climate laws threaten to undermine the significant investments already made by businesses to align with the European Green Deal. What European businesses need is a consistent regulatory framework, a level playing field, and a strong commitment to continuing Europe’s leadership in sustainable innovation. Continuing to invest in renewable energy and green technologies is an urgent necessity to propel us forward. With this statement, we urge the European Commission and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to stand firm on existing and upcoming environmental standards and to actively champion businesses by prioritising smart and consistent implementation. The stakes are high: maintaining environmental ambition and ensuring consistent, fair implementation are essential to ensure that the EU can nurture a transparent, competitive business environment while driving sustainable economic growth. Now more than ever, the EU must seize this opportunity to foster a transparent, future-proof business environment – or risk undermining both its climate goals and economic resilience. https://lnkd.in/eMq3eFdg

Prior to the hearings of the designated EU Commissioners in the European Parliament and the new European Commission taking office, Ecopreneur.eu calls on all policy makers to continue pursuing the ambitious goals of the #EuropeanGreenDeal and its timely implementation. In a policy paper, we express our demands and recommendations for the Commission. We believe that the planned #CircularEconomyAct and #CleanIndustrialDeal will be essential for advancing Europe’s sustainable #competitiveness at global level. But how can companies become competitive in a #justtransition process that requires regulatory guidelines and more #transparency? How to strike the balance between policy incentives and compliance requirements to create a level playing field with fair market conditions for all? ⏭️ Read our full position paper at https://lnkd.in/e7ghzzwC #EUGreenDeal #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #CleanIndustry #CircularBusiness

But what about lack of competitiveness of #sustainable products within the EU common market due to a missing level playing field? #EGD #CircularEconomy #SMEs
