  • „We are not reaching for the stars, but we are securing our future here on earth“. This is what Andrius Kubilius, Commissioner for Defence and Space, said during the opening of the #IRIS2 signing ceremony. Today‘s historic event marks the launch of the EU‘s 3rd flagship programme in space after Copernicus and Galileo. The IRIS sattelite constellation will become a key component of the EU‘s sovereign communication infrastructure and make Europe more resilient against external shocks. Deutsche Telekom is proud to be part of the Core Team of companies that aims to bring this important strategy to life. Thanks EU Space, and especially Timo Pesonen and Catherine KAVVADA for bringing this project together. Antje Williams Joerg G. • Europe loses 5 billion euros in digital taxes every year   According to a study by cep, Europe has forgone around 30 billion euros in digital taxes since 2018 because no effective method has been found to address the trade deficit in services, despite the extensive use of European infrastructure by big tech. This situation is far from fair.   In particular, since this trade deficit in services leads to three societal issues caused by multinational digital service provider: 1.      They use public goods in the EU without contributing to their funding. 2.      They are responsible for high data traffic in European networks without financially contributing to their modernization and expansion. 3.      They undermine Europe's digital sovereignty by holding a dominant market position in the digital sector.   To enhance Europe's digital sovereignty and establish competitive fairness, the study proposes financial contributions to network rollout costs as one potential solution.   Check out more here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/d2_jBxKZ

  • Connect Europe, GSMA, ecta (european competitive telecommunications association), Nokia, and Ericsson have published a joint position paper, advocating for the inclusion of electronic communication networks in the EU taxonomy. The taxonomy framework can not only help guide investment activities that align with and support the EU's climate targets, but also plays an important role in helping to achieve the EU’s Digital Decade targets. #EUTaxonomy

  • We welcome the Budapest declaration by EU leaders calling for a boost in #EU #competitiveness, for drastically less bureaucracy, and acknowledging the role of #SingleMarket for connectivity. We are looking forward to contributing to the upcoming 2025 EC proposals for strengthening EU`s #digital and #tech capabilities. We hope that the spirit of this declaration, instilling the sense of urgency for changes proposed by the Draghi and Letta reports, will steer the upcoming EU initiatives.

  • At DT, we have set ourselves ambitious sustainability goals: We want to be carbon neutral along the entire value chain by 2040 and this requires considerable effort. We are therefore all the more pleased that our ongoing activities are being recognized by the Scope Group rating that was published last week, making DT the only DAX company to receive a "very good" rating for our sustainability performance. #sustainability #ESG https://lnkd.in/eziGNqeW

#Nachhaltigkeit #ESG #Telekom #Klimaneutralität #ErneuerbareEnergien #Innovation #LinkedInDachNews

  • “We cannot just continue regulating this sector as it has been in the past.” Dr. Jakob Greiner setting out DT’s position on the upcoming #DigitalNetworksAct at the Hungarian Council Presidency conference on connectivity: 1️⃣ Ex ante SMP Regulation was always meant to be a bridge to ex post. We need a more symmetric way of regulating. 2️⃣ Scale matters and one of the key barriers holding back a true Telecoms Single Market is fragmented regulation across EU MS. 3️⃣ Every euro invested in spectrum auctions is a euro we cannot invest in network built-out & modernisation. Important to arrive at longer license durations and renewals (e.g 20/20 model). 4️⃣ Let’s take a close look at the changing connectivity ecosystem and reflect it in the scope of a new regulation. Same networks require same rules. #DNA #HU24EU

  • This week Deutsche Telekom signed up to the #AIPact, launched by the European Commission. With this, we commit to continue on our path in leading on the ethical development and implementation of AI in Europe. At Deutsche Telekom, we have set ourselves digital ethics guidelines on #AI since 2018, anticipating many of the requirements set out in the EU #AIAct. Only recently, we announced the adoption of 'Green AI Principles', focusing on the environmentally sustainable development and use of AI technology (see link in the comments). We look forward to share our experiences and continue on our path towards ethical and sustainable AI development in the framework of the AI Pact.

Honored to be part of a significant milestone in the journey towards responsible #AI— the celebration of the first signatories of the #AIPact Pledges!  Today, we celebrate a collective commitment to fostering trust in AI. With the #AIAct set to take effect in two years, the AI Pact is a proactive step towards ensuring early compliance and identifying and sharing best practices across sectors. It will be an important instrument to facilitate compliance widely. 🔑 Key Stats: 114 companies have signed on until now, with a diverse range of participants: - 75 large companies (250+ employees) - 11 medium-sized (50-249 employees) - 28 small companies (<50 employees) They represent both the EU (65 companies) and non-EU (49 companies), and include key actors from different parts of the AI value chain and covering a broad range of application sectors (telecom, healthcare, automotive, aeronautics, security, tourism, banking, etc.) It's only a start since the AI Pact is an open process that companies can join anytime.  As part of this initiative, all companies pledge to: - Adopt an AI Governance Strategy to ensure responsible AI use. - Map High-Risk AI Systems for transparent management. - Promote AI Literacy within their organisations to empower employees with ethical AI knowledge. Moreover, more than half of these companies pledge additional AI Pact commitments, such as human oversight, risk mitigation, and transparency in AI-generated content like deep fakes. The AI Pact proves that innovation and regulation can work hand in hand, creating an environment where AI thrives responsibly. Let’s continue working together to set a new global standard for trustworthy AI. #AIPact #AIAct #AIinEurope #AIOffice Find more info here: https://lnkd.in/eiicEd9j

It's been a good discussion in which I highlighted: 1. Time for a #telecoms reform is NOW, not LATER, to boost #EUcompetitiveness 2. Move from ex-ante telecoms regulation to ex-post 3. The need for an update of #EUMergerRegulation 4. A need to reflect the wider ecosystem in a future reform
