Following their approval by the European Parliament, CEN and CENELEC congratulate the incoming College of Commissioners and look forward to the beginning of their mandate on 1 December. The second term of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen comes at a crucial time for Europe to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry and the functioning of the Single Market, as outlined in both the Draghi Report and the Letta Report. European Standardization can play a crucial role in fulfilling the ambitions of these reports, as European #standards help to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency across the continent, while also supporting economic growth and international trade. In this new mandate, CEN and CENELEC call on the European Commission to reinforce their partnership with the European Standardization System. Europe must safeguard a strong market-driven European Standardization System as a cornerstone of European competitiveness, economic and social priorities. In particular, CEN and CENELEC welcome the confirmation of Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, who will be primarily responsible for European Standardization through the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). Meeting Standards, the annual campaign hosted by Small Business Standards (SBS) is here again from 25 to 29 November, with a week filled with a variety of events organized by standardization bodies and SME organizations throughout Europe. The goal is to raise SME awareness of the strategic benefits of standardization, fostering SME involvement in standards development and connecting SMEs with standardization organisations across Europe. The Polish member of CEN and CENELEC Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN), Small Business Standards (SBS), SMEunited and Związek Rzemiosła Polskiego (ZRP) will hold a joint workshop on the 26th of November on “Empowering SMEs & crafts with standards: Practical examples and engagement opportunities”. Standards play a crucial role in ensuring the quality, safety and interoperability of products and services across industries. For SMEs engaging in standardization can bring numerous benefits but many SMEs are not aware or involved. The workshop, coinciding with the 100-year-old anniversary of PKN, is a wonderful opportunity to learn how standardization can drive growth, innovation, and market access.
