The big winner in August was the demand for IT professionals. A big jump, up 16%, driven by large double digit increases in all states except NSW and QLD. While public sector recruitment was strong, the private sector demand was driving the index this month. This can be considered a good omen as it often indicates companies investing for productivity improvement and efficiency gains - only time will tell. #recruitment #management #humanresources

Another positive news story today in regard to the resilience of the overall Australian jobs market and therefore economy. We have hit 10m full time workers for the first time and continue to see record participation rates. Unemployment held relatively steady. The more people we have working the better it is! While these numbers are great I have to say the tech jobs market in the last 6 months has been tight. I have been recruiting in the tech space since 1999 and the last 6 months have been some of the tightest conditions I have worked in. According to Seek's latest quarterly report the number of online adverts posted in the technology sector for NSW are down by 27% Year on Year. Average applications are up significantly. Does this the IT jobs market has dropped by this much? I suspect no but there are obviously changes in the sector driving this drop. From what I am hearing there is more positive sentiment about the market ahead but we still have a way to go until the market firms up. What are your thoughts about the current technology jobs market?
