🌟 With the end-of-year rush underway, ensuring your applications and infrastructure can handle the surge in demand is more important than ever. 🚀 Our Technical Success Manager, Matt Allford, shares some practical advice on preparing your systems to meet increased traffic while also managing costs. Here's his take: 👇 🛠️ Typically around this time of the year, I get questions from customers regarding the scalability of their applications, ensuring the infrastructure and application architecture can handle increased load brought by extra traffic and large sales. ⚙️ While many cloud services have the capability to automatically scale under certain conditions, not all services do, and you need a great understanding of your application and infrastructure to understand what needs to scale, when, and by how much, while also managing cost. It's also helpful to know what the bottlenecks in your application are and consider if a change in architecture might help alleviate those bottlenecks, such as using a caching service for a database. 💡 We've worked with customers to use Azure's Load Testing service, which can simulate traffic for your applications. Azure Load Test supports both Apache JMeter and Locust, giving flexible options for writing tests that simulate real user behaviour. Your application doesn't need to be hosted in Azure to use Azure Load Test, but if it is, you can leverage Azure Monitor while running a load test to correlate client-side issues or performance problems with your back-end infrastructure, helping quickly pinpoint where issues are. 📈 This is more than just technical knowledge too. Other teams within our customer base like marketing, customer success, and sales all rest easier knowing the technology will support an increase in traffic, and the user experience will remain great. 📣 One last comment: don't make load testing a one-off event! Load testing can be integrated into CI/CD workflows, helping ensure as you change your infrastructure and code base over time, that you don't introduce unexpected performance or scalability issues. Thanks, Matt, for sharing your insights! If you’d like to dive deeper into optimising your application performance (on Azure or AWS) or explore load testing solutions, feel free to reach out - we’re here to help! 🤝 Cameron Rangeley Aubrey Donovan Crayon #scalability #appscalability #performance #applicationperformance
