This is something I encounter all the time. I call it the 'Sample of One Fallacy'. I catch myself doing it too — it's so hard to avoid. I was recently talking to a new marketer about a popular Kiwi brand. They explained the reason they stopped buying it. The brand had become boring and lost its appeal. The new marketer went on to explain how the brand could sponsor specific sports to recapture their attention and get that appeal back. (This was a real conversation, if you're reading this, please don't feel called out — this is genuinely something that comes up almost weekly. This is just the most recent example!) As marketers, our personal perspectives often don't matter. We have to learn to put them aside. We have to avoid overweighting any single individual's experience when strategising. While personal anecdotes are valuable, they don’t represent the entire audience. Next time you're tempted to say, "I feel this, so the brand should do that," take a step back. Marketing is about seeing the bigger picture, capturing the essence of what the broader audience values, and communicating it compellingly. Marketing starts with an understanding of the wants, needs, and desires of your audience. With the new FY in Australia and our clients setting new targets, the Stirling Marketing team has been focused on marketing strategies & plans these past couple of months. A few tips when creating your marketing plan: ⭐ Do a SWOT analysis first, specifically focused on marketing and sales and be very realistic about your current state, channel performance, budget, resources, capabilities and tools. ⭐Narrow down your top goals. I know you want to do it all, but the marketing dollar only goes so far and won't typically cover everything equally. ⭐Only 5% of your marketing budget should be available for experiments, and these experiments should tie back to the business and marketing goals. We shouldn't be doing marketing because it's fun. ⭐If it's on the marketing plan, it should also have a deadline and planned ROI attached. If there's no ROI, you should question why it's on the plan. ⭐You can pivot the marketing plan when the business goals change. The plan should be 90% locked in for the current 3 months; 50% locked in for the following 3 months and continue to diminish for the remainder of the year. This allows you to adjust should the business priorities change. #b2bmarketing #techmarketing #tech

Advent #9 - Will you be going on sale soon? Do you follow a 'one size fits all' for your sale launch campaign. Let me tell you about something that has driven significant revenue across some of my clients this year. PRICE DROP FLOWS When a product drops in price an email (and/or SMS) triggers to all profiles who have recently viewed the product and/or added the product to their basket. It contains the product and you can tailor the rest of the email to fit in with your sale messaging. You decide: ▶️ % reduction required to trigger the flow (in Klaviyo the default is 15%) ▶️ whether to send to those that have started checkout with the item or also to those who have viewed the product or added to the cart. ▶️ the number of days back the flow looks (Klaviyo default is 30 days) Things to consider... 🚨 What time do your prices get reduced? If this happens at midnight you may want to set the trigger so it goes in the morning. 🚨 When do you send the sale launch email - ensure you don't send both really close to each other. You may want to exclude everyone who has received the flow from the launch if they were due to go at the same time. 🚨 If you accidently reduce a price and then increase again the flow will still trigger (learnt from experience). If you do this remember to exclude the product from the flow. 🚨 If you start doing this remember it may impact the revenue of your sale launch campaign but should drive incremental revenue when you combine the two. I've seen Revenue Per Email for these flows to be 20-50% of what we see from Abandoned Checkout. Has anyone else had similar success with this type of flow? Found this useful? I had an interesting discussion with a client today about future-proofing their SEO strategy... Namely, they were quite interested to know about Google's SGE rollout to the Australian market and how we can potentially adapt to this new experimental display of search results. Short answer: there isn't a wildly different playbook to ranking in SGE search results - at least for now. A lot of what (debatably) SGE is trying to achieve comes down to a real push on quality, highly relevant and trustworthy information that has a high relevancy to the search intent of a query. Tying back to last week's "shocking" revelation about various ranking factors being leaked straight from Google, one huge component that I see severely underutilised across a multitute of websites is 🌟authorship🌟 Specifically, Author Boxes or Author bios. It's important to build credibility with your content, but it's not just limited to the substance of what is written. The 🌟individual🌟 writing the content/ being presented as the author is equally as important, so you need to establish your website's authors as credible and dependable sources of information in their particular niche. As business owners, we all need to learn to ease off the control button sometimes. It’s understandable that we want everything done our way. The business is, in many ways, our ‘baby’! But retaining this control doesn’t empower a team. I know this from firsthand experience: → Many years ago, in the newsroom as a cub reporter, I was on the receiving end of a very excited sub editor. → They would change every other word (at least that’s what it felt like) but it didn’t always enhance the end article. They couldn’t stop themselves. But it completely deflated my spirits and knocked my confidence. → Because of this, I stop myself from doing the same thing. Unless a mistake shouts out at me, I’ll read, absorb and leave well alone. Rather than making everyone do things our way, we should work at instilling trust within our team. We want them to feel confident and free to come up with original and creative ideas, not be afraid to share them and learn from doing so.
