Exciting news! 🎉 Alligator Energy has confirmed a significant #uranium discovery at Big Lake, right next to the area where Team RadixGeo (now RadiXplore) submitted uranium targets for the Geological Survey of South Australia's #ExploreSA Hackathon back in 2020. 💡 For the hackathon, we introduced an innovative technique to identify uranium deposits by analyzing existing oil and gas well data. This method leverages gamma ray logs to detect uranium anomalies within the subsurface, providing a cost-effective exploration strategy. We hypothesized that these anomalies could indicate sandstone-hosted roll front deposits. 🔢 We developed an algorithm to automatically scan wireline log data for gamma ray anomalies and map them. By testing it on a subset of wells, we identified three potential targets. What was once theoretical became reality yesterday when Alligator Energy drilled south of Frome Embayment at Big Lake and discovered uranium concentrations as high as 241 ppm (10-50 times the background levels)! Imagine the potential if we applied this method across 3,000+ wells in the basin. Eco Detection, which makes “lab-in-a-box” solutions for automated water quality monitoring, has announced an investment worth $10 million from London Stock Exchange-listed mining services company Capital Limited. In a statement this morning, the Melbourne-based company said that its Ion-Q platform is currently gaining acceptance over a variety of water monitoring applications. Within mining it supports exploration and mining activities “by providing critical data for compliance and remediation reporting”. “This investment will accelerate production expansion and sales into new markets for us,” said Jefferson Harcourt, CEO of Eco Detection. “The issues around water are global, and not going away. Automation of a slow and expensive manual process makes sense, but it’s not easy to put a laboratory in the field. We’ve done it, and now we’re embracing the race to scale. Some serious insights from David Leitch and ITK Services Australia on the SW (Riverina) REZ ... and crucially Hume Link. Some of it - especially those opposed to Hume Link - as against the local REZ community supporting wind and solar development - will not be welcomed esp the bit about the suggestion that Hume Link needs double the capacity (so two circuits). If that is the case there's a lot of questions that need to be answered ... and sooner rather that later. Personally I believe we need to find solutions, to deliver the lowest community cost of energy, and also maximum benefits. As someone who still thinks of themselves as a "bushie" I lament the lack of pragmatism, even recalcitrance of some in the bush to extract the maximum community benefit as part of negotiations, be that hospitals, health (GP and other services), education, policing, regional development (through decentralisation), etc. However don't mistake that pragmatism for disrespect of individual and community rights - though those two things can be in conflict. It seems one of the biggest challenges remains "visual impact" on parties not hosting facilities - esp where's no individual compensation or not enough community compensation/benefit. This is where governments at all levels need to step in and take leadership role - especially through providing better community outcomes (in areas of Australia that have long missed out on government services and support) The biggest frustration I have though is reserved for the resurgence of nuclear - supposedly as a solution to stop renewable and transmission projects. Bluntly nuclear, as is the start of the art today, is simply not a viable operational or economic option in Australia. Those that argue for it a creating a distraction that actually is not addressing what their real/genuine concerns are, rather they are actually harming the prospects of actually getting good outcomes from something that is going to happen. Australia is one the luckiest nations with respect Renewable Energy Resources - the cheapest lowest carbon generation there is. We just have to make sure that we look at, and ensure that Agricultural activities are not sidelined but facilitated - AgriVoltiacs for example can deliver increased wool and meat yields from sheep grazing while ensuring a stable "off farm" income.
