AmixTech Expands Strategic Acceleration Programme to New Zealand AmixTech Lab, the renowned technology business accelerator, is excited to announce the inclusion of New Zealand in its Strategic Acceleration Programme. This expansion aims to scale up founders, startups and companies in specialising sectors such as AgTech, WineTech, FinTech, FoodTech and ClimaTech. Spearheading this initiative is a multidisciplinary team led by Max Morales, with the support of London-based PR and business consultant Fran Bridgewater FCIM. The programme’s primary objective is to foster collaboration with New Zealand companies aiming to penetrate the Chilean and Texan markets by leveraging AmixTech’s extensive network. Another key goal is to expand AmixTech’s talent base in London, enabling the creation of bespoke strategies for business development. Strategic focuses include Dairy, High Tech, Agricultural Machinery and Wine, providing Chilean companies with access to cutting-edge innovative practices from New Zealand. AmixTech also plans to connect with New Zealand’s vibrant startup ecosystem by engaging with local incubators, accelerators and hubs to facilitate market entry into Chile and Texas. The origins of the collaboration between New Zealand and Chile can be traced back to a number of years ago when Isabel Estate participated in the Wine Salon at Colchagua Valley, organised by Max Morales, CEO of AndesWines.com. This event laid the foundations for a robust connection between the two countries. Why Chile and New Zealand? Eva Pemper, a third-generation winemaker from Croatia now leading the field in New Zealand, has received widespread acclaim for her wines in both the US and across Europe. She serves as a mentor to Max Morales and her expertise is instrumental in bridging the connections with local wine producers, fostering a new phase of technological exchange based on the climatic and soil similarities between the two countries. Max Morales, who has 23 years of experience in the re-establishment of old vineyards in Chile, recently concluded the ‘Wine Innova Tech 2024’ seminar series at the Palacio Rioja in Viña del Mar. Supported by the Regional Productive Development Committee of Valparaíso through the Viraliza CORFO program, this initiative aims to boost the creation of the WineTech Investment Fund. I have continued to see the tech sector's growth since I co-founded FinTechNZ in 2016. I had numerous conversations with the previous Government and spoke on TVNZ about the need for a coordinated effort, so I agree with Dr Claire Robinson. A good example is Open Banking, we have been talking about it for years but with no unified strategy, it has stagnated, until very recently. We know New Zealand has the capability, we have a number of companies "taking it the rest of the world" My view is that we need a technology task force with key stakeholders from each sector, technology, education, and others to unify the strategy. This allows the TT to discuss and create new strategies, products, and solutions to help resolve our generational issues and grow our underproductive economy, create jobs, attract investment, work with other educational providers to share IP, and create home talent. Like the UK we have concentrations of certain sectors in geographical locations, the one main difference is an overarching governance structure. I have spoken with Hon Judith Collins KC MP and Christopher Luxon about this concept, now It just needs to be brought to life, I am sure it would not take much to bring key stakeholders across the entire technology sector together if we all saw the "Big Picture" Would you want to be part of generational change for everyday kiwis? #timetobebold #technologyunification #NZTechnologystrategy2024andbeyond

It's good to see the MVNO market in NZ opening up 👍 👍 👍 Hopefully it is doing so in such a manner which allows virtual operators to be innovative in the manner they choose to package up offerings, rather than protect the status quo. If owning infrastructure is no longer the ticket to play in the mobile game, could MVNO offerings pave the way for more shared infrastructure, better cost efficiencies and coverage? AI is the biggest shift in technology since the advent of the internet. It demands a fundamental shift in how we both design experiences and architect solutions. It is not simply a case of adding AI. XAM has been able to drive early adoption and work with customers to implement use cases quickly. We have already built tools and platforms that leverage Generative AI to automate the build of websites and applications. One of the risks companies face is sending SMS messages from their brand name rather than a dedicated mobile send number. Marketers like to use the brand, but turns the opt out process into what #behaviouralscientists call a #sludge. ie: it makes opting out much harder that just replying STOP. #CEO’s, #CFO’s and compliance concerned boards may want to look into this process. Plus, sending from the brand name also limits two way instant interaction and prevents guaranteed delivery to some telco’s.

Congrats to the team at centrapay and BNZ for 'partnering' here to bring innovation and greater value for customers and merchants. This is (IMHO) a really practical and easily understood example of Fintech innovation that straddles core themes that we think are central to FinTech; Innovation, Customer Value, Partnering, Investment in highly scaleable, exportable technology and the value of special people providing sector leadership. This latter point about people is a great opportunity for NZ- we are a small intimate country and this is one of our 'secret sauces'. With so much talk on capping surcharging fees, this is a really timely release. Perhaps this approach moves us away from all the talk about capping surcharging fees to just letting the market decide. Perhaps the opportunity of the merchants/retailers to simply absorb the transaction fees into their business model is the true promise we all seek and brings back the innovative lead that EFT POS gave NZ 30 years ago. Getting rid of those nasty add-on fees at the terminal will help build consumer trust and take a load off everyone.
