“I was fortunate enough to work alongside Phil for close to two years at Linktree, each leading adjacent and closely aligned product components in the website and the onboarding application. Phil’s calm and pragmatic demeanour even under tight deadlines was unshakable and something I truly admired, and sought to model after. Similarly, his technical capabilities and output was truly understated in the organisation. The website Phil and his team built continues to be the exemplary piece of the product in terms of visual polish and reflection of the Linktree brand and personality. Phil’s diverse skills and steady personality are outstanding, and any organisation would be better favoured with Phil on the team.”

What front-end development technologies should you learn?
Take the time to understand the components for each screen size before building. Using media queries will be important however plan the build first so the queries are simple. Think about the elements in the component and how they change. Images scale down while text wraps increasing height. Not all designers consider these things and it might be important to change the design. Doing this early will be better than refactoring or writing excessive media queries.

What front-end development technologies should you learn?
A lot of people will say to go learn frameworks like react, Vue, tailwind ect. They’re definitely helpful but I recommend understanding the fundamentals first. Take the time to learn pure html, css and JavaScript. Frameworks make life easier but if you don’t understand the basics you end up relying on tools to solve problems without knowing why. Frameworks come and go but the core knowledge will always be valid.
