Platform Engineering and API Security Benchmark Survey Results 📝 Post 1 of 10 At Kubernetes Community Day Sydney 2024, our team conducted the Platform Engineering and API Security Benchmark Survey to better understand current practices, challenges, and priorities in platform engineering and API security across various industries. Over the next five weeks, we'll be sharing some key insights from the Survey.   🎯 Question 1: Who is primarily responsible for API development in your organisation? 👉 Highlights: 🔸'Everyone builds APIs' was the top answer (44.3%) to the question of who is in charge of API development in their organisation, indicating a trend toward shared responsibility among teams. However, this can present several challenges, such as inconsistent standards, security vulnerabilities, and API sprawl. 🔸At the same time, 41.8% of respondents shared that their platform engineering teams are primarily responsible for API development. The big winner in August was the demand for IT professionals. A big jump, up 16%, driven by large double digit increases in all states except NSW and QLD. While public sector recruitment was strong, the private sector demand was driving the index this month. This can be considered a good omen as it often indicates companies investing for productivity improvement and efficiency gains - only time will tell. #recruitment #management #humanresources

There has been a lot of hype around the Rust programming language. Most articles and blogs I read are heavy on promises, and a little light on testing. I’ve done a simple comparison between a lambda written in Python vs the same lambda written in Rust. Both use the official AWS SDKs. Boto3 is well established but the Rust SDK is new. The official release was about 8 months ago at reinvent. I’ve load tested both using K6. Why? Well, because I want to see for myself if I really do get the 8x improvement in performance and equivalent reduction in cost that people promote. What were the results? Platform Engineering and API Security Benchmark Survey Results 📝 Post 4 of 10 🎯 Question 4: How frequently do you conduct #security audits for your APIs? Our Kubernetes Community Days Sydney 2024 survey reveals that 🔸47.5% of respondents occasionally run their API security audits. 🔸39.2% perform these audits frequently, which can potentially help manage API security risks. 🔸10.1% intend to implement these frequent audits, and 3.2% do not yet have any API security audit process in place. 👉 With API security top of mind, it is crucial to follow the progression of API enablement: 1️⃣ API discovery: Team needs to identify and catalogue all APIs within the organisation, including zombie and shadow APIs.
