The KPMG Global Tech Report, which surveyed 2,450 executives from 26 countries, including 138 from Australia, focusing on how tech leaders can avoid purely reactive tech investment by seeing past the hype and effectively balancing speed, security and value. With 81% of Australian technology leaders (versus 78% globally) feel it is difficult to keep up with the pace of change, with 76% recognising their own role has evolved significantly over the past 2 years. One of the key themes from the report is the perception among many tech leaders that they are losing ground to the competition on innovation. The report explores this topic in detail, including whether the perception is reality, and what tech leaders are doing to get ahead. Most of our clients can relate to this, therefore key to having a clear tech strategy, flexible to the fast pace of change. This is a good read, and I am keen to get your feedback specific to your current experience.

The 2024 Watermark Search Board Diversity Index provides a deep dive into the ASX 300 Board environment. With over 10 years of historical data the Index provides comprehensive insights into the changing environment that exists within ASX boards. Whilst we’ve continued to see positive progress for women on boards, up 89% since 2016, cultural diversity has unfortunately stalled! The percentage of board directors from culturally diverse backgrounds remains at 9%, unchanged from last year. Within ASX 201-300 companies the percentage of directors from a non-European background has dropped from 6% in 2022 to 3.8 % in 2024, and there has been no increase in the number of indigenous directors on the ASX (4). This session highlighted the importance of adopting a more mature approach to Operational Due Diligence (ODD): shifting perspective to view it through the lens of continuous improvement, rather than a mere compliance exercise. This posture is becoming increasingly important due to updates in APRA regulations (CPS 230 et al.). The emphasis is now on enhancing organisational resilience and incorporating risk management into every layer of the organisation - from the boardroom to the front line.
