We're excited to mark the completion of the Maylands underground power project, which has enabled around 3000 homes and businesses to enjoy the benefits of more space for green canopies, improved power reliability and much more. To celebrate this milestone, our Head of Strategic Works Delivery Mohsin Miyanji MIEAust CPEng NER met with the local member for Maylands Lisa Baker MLA and the City of Bayswater Mayor Filomena Piffaretti. The project involved removing 445 power poles and undergrounding 24km of overhead line, as well as installing 374 LED streetlights. A big thanks to the City of Bayswater, the State Government, and the Maylands community for partnering with us to bring the benefits of underground power to your area. We reached a major milestone this month in completing construction on a new high voltage injection unit (HVIU) to provide back-up power to the Lancelin townsite. The HVIU can support around 1,100 homes and businesses in the event of a fault on the feeder line, reducing the duration of outages for the community. From design to construction, our teams delivered on a 6-month delivery time frame as part of the Regional Connect Program. This involved collaboration across many areas of the business, who came together to navigate the project's civil and logistical challenges. A special thanks to the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, the Shire of Gingin and local businesses for working with us to expedite the project. Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming a Japanese delegation to our Perth office to share insights on how we’re transforming WA’s main electricity network. It was a great opportunity to share experiences and ideas, and discuss how we're managing the network towards a cleaner energy future. Delegates heard from Western Power’s Mohsin Miyanji MIEAust CPEng NER, Adam Payne, Marie van Wyk and Michael Halls on our underground power programs as well as Chris Burke on our innovative digitisation projects. The visiting delegates shared their experience in exploring new ways to underground high density areas in Japan. 👏 Many thanks to the delegates for travelling to Perth and engaging with us on many exciting energy topics.

🚒 We're proud to support Bushfire Volunteers through the Western Power Bushfire Volunteers Grants Program, which is now open for applications to all volunteer brigades located within our service area. The funding will enable brigades to purchase essential tools in readiness for bushfire season. Previous recipients have used the funds for items such as water tanks and pumps, 4WD recovery tools, mosquito defence gear and even a snake handling course. To hear first-hand how the initiative has helped regional brigades, we recently caught up with the West Murray Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, who were one of the 48 recipients of last year's funding round. Find out more and apply before the closing date of Wednesday 4 December 2024 here: https://bit.ly/3CdcArt **Please note this funding stream is set up to fund equipment that can't be accessed through the State Government Emergency Levy (ESL), Local Government Grants Scheme (LGGS) or other funding sources.
