About us

In the bustling heart of the inner east, the City of Bayswater is home to a culturally diverse and vibrant community of more than 65,000 residents set against the backdrop of four burgeoning town centres, over 380 hectares of green open space and a 10km stretch of the Swan River. The City operates three libraries, three recreation centres and supports over 120 local sporting clubs through the provision of club rooms and facilities. We maintain 188 parks, ovals and open spaces, and manage a local road network that spans 360km. We are particularly passionate about the environment, dedicating valuable time and resources to addressing water quality, protecting our wetlands and planting over 1,500 trees to address our declining tree canopy. An early adopter of the three-bin system we are serious about reducing waste and educating our residents about how they can contribute. The City manages parking, promotes responsible pet ownership and ensures we are bushfire ready. We operate two senior citizen centres, oversee three residential care facilities and four retirement villages. We operate five child health centres, immunisation clinics and conduct health inspections at local eateries. For further information visit the City's website bayswater.wa.gov.au

  • The City was proud to be a finalist in this year's Institute of Public Administration Australia WA (IPAA WA) 2024 Achievement Awards for championing LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the community, and our efforts in creating a healthy and safe workplace. The City was nominated for the Best Practice in Health and Wellbeing Award for its culture of care program – a series of initiatives including staff wellness events, a new Psychosocial Hazard Strategy and individualised support for staff experiencing personal hardship. The City also received a nomination for the Best Practice in LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Award for its Pride mural, unveiled in June following community feedback provided during the City's 2023 PrideFEST celebrations, and the measures we've taken to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace. Congratulations to all of the award winners. Pictured: City of Bayswater Mayor Filomena Piffaretti with Councillor Nat Latter and artist Jordan Rush in front of the Pride mural in Maylands.

  • The City is proud to have been announced as the winner of WA Local Government Association (WALGA)'s Showcase in Pixels Community Group category for artwork created by Moorditj Wirin Circle, our Aboriginal women's yarning group. Inspired by the competition's 2024 theme 'Heroes Among Us', the acrylic artwork pays tribute to Stolen Generation Survivors. The artwork features 47 hibiscus leaves to represent each mission in WA. The native hibiscus flower was chosen to symbolise the Stolen Generation, as it survives harsh conditions and is a symbol of strength and resilience. Showcase in Pixels is an annual competition where winning artworks from local governments across the state are displayed on the digital tower at Yagan Square in Perth's CBD. Winning artworks will be on show at random until Tuesday 31 December. • Earlier this week, the City hosted breakfast seminars to show local business owners and staff how to use web-based platforms profile.id and economy.id. Developed by consulting company Informed Decisions, these platforms allow City staff and business owners to access the latest ABS data to learn more about our community and drive evidence-based decision making. Thank you to Glenn Capuano from Informed Decisions who demonstrated how these tools can be used to better understand our population and make data-driven decisions. • Thank you to everyone who took part in our staff clothing swap yesterday as part of National Recycling Week, in collaboration with the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC). It was great to see pre-loved clothes find new homes while promoting a practical approach to sustainability. Here’s a quick snapshot: ✅ Clothing brought in by staff: 27.55 kg ✅ Clothing taken home to be reused: 13.00 kg The remaining items will be responsibly recycled. Simple initiatives like this show how easy it can be to reduce waste and extend the life of what we already have. #NationalRecyclingWeek
