It’s been one month since the Poppy Ball wrapped up for 2024, and we are very grateful for the support and community spirit that was present at the event. Together, we were able to raise $176,000 for veterans and their families, so that they can access free services and support such as financial assistance, housing, education & employment and more. This week, we held the Spur Ranch Annual Awards ceremony in Picton, where we celebrated the incredible contributions of our RSL LifeCare volunteers and team members to the Spur Ranch Equine Program for veterans. Each year, we have the privilege of inducting someone into our Hall of Fame, a recognition reserved for individuals who have shown exceptional dedication to the program over the years. This year, we proudly inducted RSL LifeCare Chief Operating Officer Drew Pearce. Drew has championed the program since its inception, steadfastly supporting RSL LifeCare’s commitment to veterans and their families. We were thrilled to see RSL LifeCare Volunteer Gerard Sutton recognised for his outstanding dedication to the program, as he was handed the Ranch Boss Award for Excellence. Thank you to all the volunteers and team members who were present and acknowledged for their outstanding contributions. It’s been one week since the Poppy Ball at Victoria Barracks, and we are truly grateful and impressed by the collective support of our guests, sponsors and veteran community who came together to support veterans and their families. We’ve captured some key highlights to share with you; but the true highlight is the spirit of support for the veteran community which we all create, together. Your contributions will help veterans and their families as they transition into civilian life, by enabling us to provide free support services in the areas of housing or financial assistance, DVA claims and advocacy support, employment support and wellbeing programs, as well as the Spur Equine Program. Our Veteran and Family Hub network is expanding, making it easier for the veteran community to access local support when they need it. On Tuesday, we attended the Prime Minister’s National Veteran Employment Awards at Old Parliament House. It was a fantastic occasion to recognise and celebrate the incredible individuals and organisations who go above and beyond to ensure veterans have opportunities to move into meaningful civilian work. We’re exceptionally proud of Charlotte Webb who was instrumental in setting up the Riverina Veteran & Family Hub for RSL LifeCare, to support local veterans and their families in the Riverina region. Charlotte was recognised as a Finalist in the Veteran Employee of the Year Award, for her dedication to veterans and families. This week, we met with veterans, their families, community leaders, ESOs and other members from the local North Coast & Tweed community to share updates and design concepts on the new North Coast Veteran & Family Hub. This was the first community consultation townhall to discuss options for the service delivery model and to gather community feedback. We are grateful for the conversations and discussions that took place – as it helps us shape our project plans to ensure this Hub will meet local needs, deliver vital services, and be a place for the local veteran family community to feel heard, seen and welcome. RSL LifeCare, in partnership with RSL NSW, currently operates 5 hubs in the Riverina, Shoalhaven, Northern Beaches, Central Coast and Newcastle. Another four hubs are currently under development to reach an additional 100,000 veterans and their families, including in the Hunter, North Coast, Queanbeyan and the ACT, and Hawkesbury.
