  • We are very excited to have Mark Raymond Pamintuan join us at Retrospect Labs. He will be contributing to the continuous improvement and stability of our cloud infrastructure that enables us to deliver awesome cyber security #exercises. Having recently moved to Perth from Singapore, he's embracing the journey of settling in — from discovering Perth's parks and beaches to keeping up with his endlessly energetic little ones. Cyber Security Exercises are key to staying as cyber ready as possible! 🖥️⚔️ In the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats, staying ahead of the adversary requires more than just theoretical knowledge. At Retrospect Labs, we believe in the importance of realistic and meaningful cyber security exercises to help train your cyber defence teams. We've jotted down eight use cases for cyber exercises, from validating plans to educating stakeholders. 👀 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gk9s3APy

  • We’ve been working with SA Power Networks since 2020, supporting them in their journey to continually improve and iterate their cyber incident response capability. They’ve steadily increased not only the number of exercises they’ve run, but also the scale and complexity of their exercises. They’ve got a great team (headed by Nathan Morelli) and it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm and commitment the team have shown. We’ve written this case study to capture some of the highlights of their exercise program, and how they’ve used Gauntlet (our cyber security exercise platform) to make it all happen! https://lnkd.in/gjmCVBkQ

  • We have once again partnered with AWSN - Australian Women in Security Network to run our two-day, interactive and hands-on #incidentresponse training in Melbourne on 5 - 6 December 2024. This course is for women who are interested in learning more about incident response. Technical know-how is not a requirement for this course!   Here's what some of our previous course participants have had to say about the training and why they've loved it: 🌟 "This is probably the most helpful individual training I've experienced for incident response" 🤩 "Hands-on experience, the labs, the real-life examples, the setup of the learning environment, highly experienced trainers, diverse group of women" 👩🎓 "I learnt SO much coming from a non-technical cyber-security background. It has been great to understand (and appreciate) the technical response and understand how I can apply my current incident response experience to a cyber-incident"   If you're interested in learning more about the underlying principles of good incident response, getting some experience with tools that are used as part of #DFIR, meeting some other fabulous female cyber stars, and wanting to add to your cyber knowledge and skillset then consider joining us on 5 - 6 December!   For more information and to register: https://lnkd.in/ghbrCdtS Jacqui L. - Eloise Robertson

  • Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to run a Capture The Flag (CTF) event for Year 10 students at Camberwell High School, focusing on cyber security #incidentresponse. The students dived into hands-on #exercises and real-world IR challenges, including phishing emails, malware execution and social engineering. They worked collaboratively as incident responders, gaining valuable skills in forensic analysis by examining various technical artefacts, such as authentication logs, hashes, and scripts. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and problem-solving skills in action.   We are proud to partner with P-Tech, who makes initiatives like this possible. This collaboration not only enhances student learning, but also cultivates interest in a career in cyber! A huge thank you to all the students for their hard work, the amazing teachers at Camberwell High, and to everyone involved in making this event a success!

The 2024 AWSN - Australian Women in Security Network Incident Response Competition is done! It was the fourth year we've run this competition - and this year we built another challenging and comprehensive scenario for participants to work through. Each team did an incredible job of investigating the victim network, briefing executives, preparing media statements, and considering the regulatory and legal aspects of the incident. Well done to all of the teams and participants... your willingness to learn, to be challenged, and the breadth of your incident response knowledge and capabilities was on full display throughout this event. And a very big congratulations to the top three placed teams: 🥇 1st Place: Team 14 Kamaea Scott, Nandip Kaur Sagoo, Tandi Chogyel, Sonia Kadyan and Kathy Nguyen. They'll receive SANS vouchers and a mentoring session with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD). 🥈 2nd Place: Team 20 Lorine Kidiavai, Yeshi Peldon, Olivia Leung, Jacinta Hayward and Shimsha Shetty. Second place prizes include Lumify training vouchers and a one-on-one session with Lynn Moore. 🥉 3rd Place: Team 11 Bonnie Pui Man Cheng, Belinda Lysaght, Chandra Deepti Marri, Jay P and Krithika Venkatarama Subramanian. Third place will receive vouchers from the Cyber Leadership Institute and a mentoring session with Lynn Moore. Industry events like this one are incredibly important as they help to build the cyber skills pipeline here in Australia. We are incredibly grateful for the help and support we received who helped make this event possible, particularly: - The Australian Signals Directorate - who generously sponsored the event! - Our esteemed judges who helped us assess all of the teams and their submissions: Simone V. - Lynn Moore - Shana Uhlmann - Charlotte Davidson (Wood) CISM EMPA - Those who kindly donated prizes: Australian Signals Directorate - SANS Institute - Lumify Group (formerly DDLS Group) - The Expert Leader - Cydarm Technologies for providing teams with access to their cyber response management platform We hope that every team had fun, that you were challenged, and that you walk away from this competition with a sense of achievement, knowledge gained, and even more passion for cyber security (and perhaps you even made some friends along the way too!). Well done! #AWSN2024winner

We're into the home stretch now with just a few days left of the 2024 AWSN - Australian Women in Security Network Incident Response Competition. The teams have been displaying amazing teamwork and strategic smarts, as they immerse themselves in responding to a critical cyber incident. It's been a delight to see each team bring their unique strengths to the fore, collaborating effectively and showing great initiative as they tackle the many challenges of IR!   The competition ends this Sunday, and then it's over to our panel of expert judges who will start working their way through all of the participants submissions to determine who came out on top in this year's challenge! A huge thanks goes out to the judges for their involvement: Simone V. (Technical Judge), Lynn Moore (Communications Judge), Charlotte Davidson (Wood) CISM EMPA Davidson (Legal/Privacy Judge), and Shana Uhlmann (Executive Judge). Participants are in the running to win some absolutely amazing prizes, so we also want to send a massive thanks to the organisations and individuals who have not only supported this year's event through their wonderful prizes, but for their ongoing support to the AWSN Incident Response Competition over the years. This year's prizes have been generously provided by SANS Institute, Lumify, Cyber Leadership Institute, and The Expert Leader, as well as a few other goodies up for grabs!   We are cheering on all the teams on as we approach the finish line, and once again, a big thank you to Cydarm Technologies, our wonderful guest speakers and experts, and to the events major sponsor the Australian Signals Directorate. Your unwavering support elevates this competition to new heights each year!   Good luck to all our teams!
