This Remembrance Day, we pause to honour all who have lost their lives in service, from wars and conflicts to peacekeeping operations. Lest We Forget. At Redlynch State College, a special mural – organised by Defence Mentor Nadine Eddy – pays tribute not only to those who have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force, but also to the families who support them 🏫👨👩👦 ‘As a Prep-12 College with a strong presence of Defence families, it was crucial for us to acknowledge and honour the sacrifices made by our Defence personnel, both past and present, as well as the challenges faced by Defence families due to the unique ADF lifestyle,’ said Nadine. She continued, ‘Given the significance of ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day in Australian history, we felt it was important to establish an ADF Memorial at our College – one that resonates with our community and offers students a meaningful connection, as they grow to appreciate the profound cost of the freedoms we enjoy.’ 🎨 Painted by local artist, Akasha Mead Art, the mural captures the contributions of all three ADF services with symbolic representations of a tank, an aircraft, and a ship, alongside a riderless horse, to honour the sacrifices of both people and animals. The image of a young child handing a poppy to a soldier embodies our deep gratitude for the freedoms we hold dear in Australia. 🌄 The mural bears the words, ‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.’ #RemembranceDay #LestWeForget

Congratulations Kim Diegutis from Middlemount Community School for being awarded the 2024 Australian Teacher Aide of the Year! When Kim first moved to Middlemount, she didn’t know much about the role of a teacher aide but was determined to get involved in the community. With her son starting Prep at Middlemount Community School, she saw the perfect opportunity to become a teacher aide 'I love helping students and the meaningful connections you make with not only the students but staff and families also. It is rewarding when students just click with their learning,' she said. Kim was nominated by her deputy principal and Prep teacher, for the incredible impact she has on students. Her unique contribution lies in her daily graphophonic program with the Prep students, where she focuses on strengthening their awareness of the relationship between letters and their corresponding sounds. Understanding that all children are unique, Kim keeps an open mind to changing learning tactics so she can provide the best support possible for each student’s needs. 'I think it’s important to get to know students first, find out their interests and hobbies and focus on building a strong relationship,' says Kim. Well done Kim, we appreciate your role and work that you do!
