#ICRI2024: Health research infrastructure ecosystems: Stronger together Hosted by the NCRIS Health Group in alignment with the International Conference on Research Infrastructures, the symposium united health research infrastructure experts from Europe, Australia, Asia Pacific and other regions. Discussions focused on exchanging information about national and international health research infrastructure initiatives and collaboration opportunities across phenomics and other omics, imaging, therapeutics, and population outcomes. Hundreds of research infrastructure experts from across the globe attended the International Conference on Research Infrastructure (ICRI) in Brisbane last week. Our CE, Dr Merran Smith, joined a panel discussing how the integration and regulation of digital tools in health research will help provide better public health outcomes. Congratulations to AURIN team members Hao Chen and Flavia Barar, who this week have a piece in University of Melbourne's Pursuit sharing insights into their work on the Heat Health Vulnerability Indicator! "The Heat Health Vulnerability Indicator aims to support government agencies in obtaining a comprehensive understanding of heat vulnerability at a local scale, allowing them to direct resources where they are needed (for example, to cope with a spike in hospital presentations during a heatwave), allocate resources for vulnerable populations and take targeted planning measures towards urban heat resilience." The HHVI has been developed as part of the Australian Urban Health Indicators (AusUrb-HI) pilot project, a collaboration across National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Facilities – AURIN, Population Health Research Network and Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) – as well as QUT (Queensland University of Technology), RMIT University, the The University of Western Australia and Cancer Council Queensland. Integrating Advanced Data Solutions for Melanoma Prevention and Detection. Phenomics Australia Board member Prof. Graham Mann and Deputy CEO A/Prof. Jim Hennessy were pleased to join fellow NCRIS members, including Population Health Research Network, Therapeutic Innovation Australia, National Imaging Facility, Bioplatforms Australia , and Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), at a workshop hosted by the Melanoma Institute Australia and the ACRF Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis (#ACEMID ) in September. The workshop focused on fostering collaboration to integrate advanced data solutions for the prevention and detection of melanoma. We recognise that there can be considerable challenges to address in achieving data transparency and we welcome: Research papers demonstrating and focusing on how data transparency has been incorporated into the work, with challenges and the extent to which they were overcome with the data used. (They should not be research papers with a nod towards transparency.) Descriptive/discursive papers on how the organisation incorporates data transparency along the path from data collection to dissemination. Similarly, challenges, achievable/appropriate levels of transparency depending on data type and any other factors should be included. Some articles may include a combination of both. Please note that the call is not looking for submissions about open science / open data, unless they are specifically focused on how data transparency and other activities can support open science principles in an area of sensitive data and secondary data use. Congratulations to Associate Professor Daniel Horton who has been awarded the 2025 Robert and Maude Gledden Visiting Fellowship at UWA. A/Professor Horton will come to UWA from the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, Northwestern University, Illinois. His research explores how to design healthy cities to mitigate the impacts of urbanisation, climate change and air pollution.
