Harvey is finding his voice. 🌟 Harvey, from central Queensland, uses an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device. The tool helps Harvey communicate and participate in daily activities. Harvey’s mum Shannon, who self-manages his NDIS plan, says the AAC device allows Harvey to reach his full potential. ‘Now that Harvey’s in school, I’m able to go back to work part-time, which has been great. I feel happy knowing he is able to communicate with everyone at school.’ - Shannon Harvey’s story: https://ow.ly/1gM250SB93m

We’re making the NDIS stronger. That’s why we’re making the NDIS easier to understand and use. We know that navigating the NDIS can sometimes be tricky. To help with this, we have been looking for ways to help people at critical points in their journey. We have started contacting child representatives 3-6 months before a participant turns 18, to discuss their options and the steps they need to take. This aims to make this transition as easy as possible for families. Learn more about being a child representative, including what to do when your child turns 18 at 💻 https://ow.ly/j7hc50UtQV8

‘The NDIS has enabled us to live decent, ordinary lives. That may not seem much to most people but for us it’s all we ever wanted, but I needed support to help me with the kids if I was ever to return to meaningful work.' We’re making the NDIS stronger. That’s why we’re working closely with participants and the disability community to ensure we make the right changes. The newly launched Self-Management Advisory Group includes self-managed participants, nominees and child representatives engaged through Participant First. The group will provide advice about the needs of people who self-manage their plans, to help improve our approach. Find out how your feedback can help make the NDIS stronger at 💻 https://ow.ly/skxI50UtQTO
