We are thrilled to see the state government announce changes to planning so more meanwhile use housing can become available in New South Wales. As we have learned through our two meanwhile use projects with Women's Community Shelters and Twilight Aged Care, meanwhile use housing is an important stepping stone between homelessness and safe, secure, long-term housing, making use of otherwise vacant properties to fulfill a real and pressing community need. Find out more about the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/g5kwQa-P Watch our video on meanwhile use here: https://lnkd.in/gQg9pGPe

The Homes for NSW Discussion Paper is a great opportunity to give feedback on the current housing system and will inform Homes NSW’s 10-year plan. We’re especially pleased to see this consultation focus on lived experience and community. If you haven’t already had your say, make sure you visit https://lnkd.in/gBc7Fn6H
📢 Help us deliver a better social housing and homelessness system in NSW. We’re inviting stakeholders and community to have their say on a Homes for NSW Discussion Paper. The discussion paper outlines the issues and challenges impacting the non-market housing and homelessness system. In it, we’re proposing 3 priority areas for action and reform: 1. Customer-driven service 2. More and better homes 3. A system that works Are these the right priorities to focus on? What actions will create the biggest impact? How do we improve access to social housing? This is a critical moment to 'think big' about the housing and homelessness system we all want. Your input will inform a new 10-year Homes for NSW Plan, for release in early 2025. We encourage you to have your say and work with us to deliver better outcomes for people seeking housing and homelessness support in NSW. DEADLINE EXTENDED: We've heard you. Submissions will be now accepted until Friday 17 January 2025. Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gBc7Fn6H #PublicHousing #SocialHousing #Homelessness #NSWGovernment

We’re so proud of the hard work Link Wentworth’s staff and partners have done through the Neighbourhood Improvement Program in 2024. Watch the video below to find out more.
Thank you to Minister Rose Jackson for taking time to visit one of our Neighbourhood Improvement Program sites in Marsfield in Sydney’s north-west. After months of hard work and community consultation, we’re proud of the improvements in these homes and their surrounding gardens and it was great to hear some of our residents talk about how happy they are with the outcomes. Our Neighborhood Improvement Program is about working in some of our most vulnerable communities—improving older assets while ensuring residents have access to the right support through our partnerships. The program creates an opportunity for tenants, businesses, local government, and volunteer organisations to work together on enhancing greenspace and amenities at existing social housing complexes. At the heart of this is understanding how we can improve the lives for our residents by giving them control over the space where they live. Link Wentworth is proud to be part of the community housing sector and working alongside Homes NSW to deliver social housing to the most vulnerable members of our community. We are grateful to the Minister for taking time from her busy schedule to visit us in October and for her passion and commitment to achieving better outcomes for all social housing residents. A serious one and a silly one 😂 Here's our Tenant Advisory Group (TAG) and staff pictured yesterday at our TAG End of Year Celebration. It was wonderful to take the opportunity to thank our TAG for their enormous contribution over 2024. Their valuable insights and feedback help us to continually improve our services and homes, and we are grateful for their dedication. We have 42 residents involved in TAG, with 23 also taking part in our TAG sub-committees: the Policy Review Committee, Service Improvement Committee and Editorial Committee. We’re looking forward to another constructive and friendly year of TAG in 2025.

Billie-Jo Williams, our Team Leader, Domestic and Family Violence Services, was invited to present at the Family Safety Summit earlier this month. Billie-Jo spoke about integrating holistic support services for women and children in crisis accommodation, using our safety service Ngarrunga as an example of best practice. Well done to Billie-Jo for being such a great advocate and leader, and thank you Third Sector Au for having us.
I've had an incredible two days at the Family Safety Summit in Western Australia. Hearing from industry experts and fellow survivors has inspired and motivated me to take further action in this important area. It was a true honour to share the impactful work we do at Ngarruga alongside such remarkable speakers. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Monique Bova for providing me with the wonderful opportunity to share my thoughts and ideas in this space. Your generosity in allowing me to contribute means a great deal to me, and I truly appreciate it. Thank you once again! Every time I speak about the work we do and my journey, I feel a profound sense of disbelief, as if I’ve entered a dream. It's a surreal and humbling experience that enriches me before and after every presentation. #FAMILYSAFETYSUMMIT2024

Great news this morning on the fast-track of HAFF Round 2. We’re pleased to see the Federal Government continue with their promise to tackle the housing crisis and provide additional resources to build more social and affordable homes for Australians. Community housing providers like Link Wentworth are ready to take advantage of this historic funding and partner with State and Federal government and the private sector. We are more than prepared to do more and make a real difference in the communities we serve. Clare O'Neil Scott Langford Housing Australia
Minister for Housing, Minister for Homelessness, Member for Hotham. Authorised by C O'Neil, ALP, Oakleigh.
BREAKING: The Albanese Government we’re partnering with States and Territories to deliver up to 5,000 new social homes under a fast-track Round 2 of Labor’s Housing Australia Future Fund. This partnership is expected to unlock up to $3 billion in new investment in social housing across Australia, creating thousands of new construction jobs. With Australians doing it tough, this partnership will support thousands of Australians to get into social housing, helping reduce homelessness and taking pressure off rents. We're building more homes for renters, homes for first-home buyers, homes for the most vulnerable in our community, because the more homes we build, the more affordable housing becomes.

Last Friday our Board and staff visited Rouse Hill for a site visit of our 33-dwelling development in the town centre. The project is well and truly under way, and in the good hands of Decode Group, with an estimated completion date of October 2025 for residents to ideally move in by next Christmas. We are thrilled to be delivering more safe, secure and affordable homes for people in the Rouse Hill community. Watch this space! A striking report from Homelessness Australia and UNSW released today found 10,000 more Australians are experiencing rough sleeping each month, a 22% increase in three years, with the housing crisis cited as the major driver. The report also found homelessness services have reported a 12% rise in monthly caseloads since 2019-20, plus an increase in employed people seeking support. As a community housing provider and specialist homelessness service, we have also seen an increase in people needing help with housing. We echo the authors’ finding that “adequate provision of social housing is crucial in reducing homelessness” and that the potential of the current funding commitments to increase supply are to be celebrated (p.124). We need more social and affordable homes, and more bipartisan political support for them, to best tackle this escalating crisis.
