I tried sharing my experience attending the 2024 National Health and Innovation Precincts Summit that just wrapped up on the Queensland Gold Coast, in a basic post. Turns out I needed more words than Linkedin allowed me! Such was the depth of my experience.

It was a real honour to be invited to Australia to give a keynote address at the 3rd National Health & Innovation Precincts Summit. Day 1 started with a moving welcome from Luther Cora of the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre and a warm introduction from the fantastic Frankie Brewer. My talk was on ‘Growing an inclusive STEM³ ecosystem’. I learnt so much listening to fellow speakers and from seeing the ambitious and inspirational work at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct the day before - all led by Craig Rowsell. The wonderful Hediyeh Vahdat of Linéaire Projects chaired the panel I later took part in with Michele Bauer, Di Dixon MBA GAICD and Hayden Welsh. We discussed government’s role in developing placed-based, innovation-led growth and world-leading healthcare. Hediyeh homed in on the challenge of curating serendipity when building a district which gave rise to a reoccurring theme throughout the conference. We concluded governments, at all levels, need to have an imaginative vision of how they will try to build future-shaping innovation and then be active and agile in coalescing partners and an eclectic network of good actors who will work at speed to deliver the plan. Day 2 started with a breakfast meeting with the Hon Andrew Powell MP GAICD, Queensland’s Minister for Science and Innovation. We agreed on everything we discussed. It was great to hear of his new government’s ambitions. Thank you Informa Connect Australia for such a comprehensive, positive and happy conference. I really appreciated all the remarkable work of Frankie Brewer, Rosie Hooley and the team. #HealthPrecinctsSummit #NHIPS #HealthPrecincts #InnovationDistricts #UpstreamLondon White City Innovation District #AustralianInnovation #Queensland IASP - International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation Tom Bentley, Shona Blair Evangelene Morris Eleni Naudé Vanessa Campbell Phil Callaghan Diana Siew Shannon Willoughby David Chang Lawson Katiza, Holly Pobjie Lisa Siladyi Tamanna Monem GAICD Michelle Williams Leticia Grigorieff Liz Marshall Taeri Kim 김태리 Debbie McNamara Danielle Newman Petra Andrén, Hugh Mc Gonagle, Natalie Gruenfeld Bernice Harris Tara Veldman GAICD Danielle Newman Ashlie Hartigan Denise Taylor

Two days of thought-provoking discussions at the 2024 #AHDC conference—but one standout for me from day 1 was the 'Challenging the Method Through #Virtual Care' panel. It's time to move beyond asking "why" and start asking "why not" deliver care beyond the walls of a hospital. The future of healthcare is flexible, innovative, and borderless. Thank you Miranda Shaw Samantha Prime Suzie Miller and Hediyeh Vahdat for your valuable insights and for leading the way in Australia in clinical care beyond the "bricks and mortars".

I am deeply honored to have been invited by the Hon Mark Butler, Minister for Health and Aged Care, and Nick Martin and Sam Shipley, to discuss the future of Integrated Child and Family Hubs— a concept where Linéaire Projects has passionately designed evidence based service models. Minister Butler, known for his unwavering commitment to improving our health system and exploring innovative care delivery models, subsequently engaged with me after our initial meeting to obtain further details and actively explore this initiative led by Karitane, shaping policy to better serve our communities. Together with Grainne O., CEO of Karitane, we explored strategies and the model for these hubs, which aim to seamlessly integrate health, education, and social services tailored to the unique needs of our communities. Minister Butler's enthusiasm and proactive approach to new health initiatives inspire confidence in the transformative impact this collaboration will have. We are excited to continue this journey to build a system that further supports every family from day one. #earlyintervention #first2000days #crosssectorcollaboration #integratedchildandfamilyhubs #partnerships #systemtransformation

The inaugural Mental Health Models & Facilities Forum is taking place today in Melbourne and the importance of data and funding these models are consistent themes across the day so far. The morning keynotes included Prof Bruce Singh from the University of Melbourne, Prof Singh delved into the history of psychiatry in precincts, this was a very apt opening to highlight the history of the design and treatment of mental health across the world. We then had sessions that discussed different mental health services and the design and treatments being offered. This included the mental health service in Westmead from Vlasios Brakoulias from Western Sydney University, the private women's mental health clinic in Cabrini from Prof Jayashri Kulkarni AM from Monash University, and the Northern Health mental health service from Associate Professor Vinay Lakra from Northern Health. The first panel of the day unpacked the evolving paradigms in mental health care and funding, some of the topics highlighted were workforce shortages, PPP, the effects of housing on mental health, and learning from innovative strategies already being implemented. The panel included Ravinder Carothers from Healthe Care, Dr Kerryn Rubin from Peninsula Health, and Justin J. from HIF Australia. This session was moderated by our fantastic chair Prof Richard Newton from Monash University. Looking forward to this afternoon's sessions!
