Last month, we were privileged to be invited to cover the Commonwealth Bank Global Markets Conference. This is a truly impressive event, taking in three days of presentations, discussions and visits in Sydney followed this year by a Treasury Corporation of Victoria-hosted two-day event in Melbourne. Speakers ranged from sovereign issuers the Australian Office of Financial Management, The Treasury - New Zealand and other sovereign-sector issuers, through to local corporate borrowers and experts from across CBA's institutional banking and markets division. If one theme came through most strongly from the event it is the contrast between the functionality of the local capital market - including ongoing inflows of capital sufficient to support significant growth - and the uncertainties of the world in which we are operating. In short, in a volatile world investors of all types - from sovereign wealth to US corporate credit funds - continue to be willing to put additional capital into play in the Australasian market. We were also proud to have some stage time to share insights from the recent Australian Fixed-Income Investor ESG survey we ran with CBA. We would like to thank the whole CBA and TCV teams for allowing KangaNews to be involved in the event, in particular Adam Donaldson, Juliana Roadley, Nathan Carr and Lauren Holtsbaum.

We recently published the results of our annual Australian fixed-income investor ESG survey and subsequent roundtable, which we produce in collaboration with our colleagues at Commonwealth Bank. You can read the outcome, outside our paywall, here: https://lnkd.in/gnT9WqJ2 The 2024 survey shows investors are facing a range of challenges in the sector – hurdles the market will need to overcome if it is to deliver on its potential and maximise the amount of capital it can mobilise to support the transition. Thanks to Charles Davis, Jo Lyn Tan and Lauren Holtsbaum from CBA for working with us on this project, and to Pauline Chrystal, CFA, Marayka Flaherty, Lucie Bishop (née Bielczykova), CFA and Ben Squire for joining the roundtable - and also to every one of the 40+ investors who filled in a survey.

Mandatory climate-related financial reporting is the latest tool in Australia to help support economic action on climate. The Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) is supportive of the regulation, but along with greenwashing controls, it also notes the potential for unintended consequences while regulation works its way through to full implementation. Ahead of the #IGCCSummit24, Duncan Paterson unpacked this topic and more with #KangaNews's Kathryn Lee. To learn more about their conversation click here: https://lnkd.in/gdFtMPss Kathryn is looking forward to connecting at the annual Climate Finance and Investment Summit, on 7-8 November, at the Sofitel, Melbourne. We have just published exclusive coverage of the roundtable discussion we hosted with ANZ Institutional that brought together experts from the worlds of finance, academia, consultants, conservation and First Nations people to discuss nature issues, with a focus on the challenges of intersection. The conclusion was that 'nature next' must become 'nature now' - but doing so involves confronting a raft of challenges. Read the coverage (outside the paywall) at: https://lnkd.in/gSh97PVs Our thanks to Daniel Ota, Katharine Tapley and Nancy Wang from ANZ, and to the participants: Sarah Bekessy from RMIT University and Biodiversity Council, Kristy Graham from Australian Sustainable Finance Institute, Jody Gunn from Australian Land Conservation Alliance, Alexander Liddington from BloombergNEF, David Major from ALCA and Thirriwirri, Stephen Murphy from Conservation Partners, Gina Pavlovic from Endeavour Energy (NSW) and Guy Michael Williams from Pollination.
